EAB/Lemon Super League 2019 Round 3: Game Vote (Special Round: PD Games)

EAB/Lemon Super League 2019 Round 3: Game Vote (Special Round: PD Games)
Starts: 12:01pm February 3rd Finishes: 11:59 February 17th

This is the vote for the first special round of the season. When voting you can only choose games that are listed as either Public Domain, Freeware, Shareware, Coverdisk full games, Promotional, or even hidden games. Basically anything considered non-commercial. The two games with the most votes will be played. If you are in doubt about a game's status, ask in the thread before you vote, or contact a Moderator. It will be sorted out before the end of voting.

Rules

Full rules are here.

Vote for five games.

Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4 pts, third 3 pts, fourth 2 pts, fifth 1 pt.

Remember to choose games suitable for competition play. Edited votes will be discounted (unless told otherwise) so think before you post. Please only vote on one board - either EAB or Lemon.

If a game comes in ECS and AGA versions, please state your preference in your vote. In the event the versions differ gameplay-wise, the version with most votes will be played. ECS is the default if you don't specify.

The winner of Jim Power will get double voting power for this round.

Tactical or nosey voters can see the Lemon voting thread here.

Since autofire is a powerup in Deluxe Galaga we can't allow your own auto- or rapid-fire for this round.

I was under the impression that if the majority of people who voted for a game request a particular rule (such as autofire being allowed) then that rule could be overridden.

I am hoping one day we get to play Xenon II again - but only if we can use autofire, as I found it unplayable without.

Not this one as we had a lot of discussion about it. But we can discuss again after the season if multiple people want to change it.

john4p 17 February 2019 13:02

Voting's over, here are the results:

Deluxe Galaga ... 23 pts
Llamatron 2112 ... 23 pts

Trap Runner ... 16 pts
Bomb Jack Beer Edition ... 11 pts
Super Obliteration ... 11 pts
T-Racer ... 11 pts
Tricky-Quiky Games ... 9 pts
Sqrxz ... 9 pts
Popeye ... 8
Zaxxon ... 7

Double voting power next week won't change the two games we'll play in Round 3:
Llamatron: 2112 and Deluxe GalAGA

I can hardly say 2 people from a total of 16 voters is a 'majority'. But there were more people voting for Deluxe Galaga than the AGA version, and unless there are any big objections, this is probably the one we will go with, as we played it in the compo before.

We can look at Auto for Deluxe Galaga if it comes up in the Knockout, but in general the no-auto rule is something we take care to maintain.

Players who know this game know how to get lots of money, so you can simply buy the auto powerup in the first shop.

I hope everyone likes shoot em ups. :D

Haven't given Minter's games a good play before so looking forward to Llamatron!

I mean I thought that hypothetically, if a majority voted for a particular rule, it could be adopted, not that in this case enough people had voted for it.

It works really well with dual sticks (like on a playstation pad). Loads of fun.

Hypothetically this is true, but for those using real hardware and no auto-fire (mine is broke on my stick) it gives an advantage to those with emulation or a switch, and this comes down to giving everyone an equal and fair chance. Id say 95% of games we play dont have an auto-fire powerup, but in this case it does.

That's not the reason for this rule or else we'd generally prohibit autofire. It's really not hard to get an autofire stick for a real Amiga.

The reason why we don't allow it for games that have autofire as a powerup is because it'd render this powerup useless if we allowed autofire. So if there's an autofire-powerup in the game you must not use mechanical autofire because the game creator designed the game around this powerup.

If there is no such powerup in the game then there is no gameplay aspect to render useless by using your own autofire - thus we are allowed to use it for these games (which are the vast majority).
