Recently got an Amiga 4000

Nice machine, but I can't seem to run older games on it. I think it is looking for older kickstart ROMS maybe? Is there any software to change between kickstart ROMS running on an Amiga? Or am I off base here? Most errors I get have something to do with a missing object not found error kickstart34005.a500.

Have a look here: http://whdload.de/docs/en/need.html
In a nutshell: You need the right kickstart with the correct name in Devs:Kickstarts and the RTB files from http://www.aminet.net/util/boot/skick346.lha.

Sounds like you're trying to run these games through WHDload? if so you need to aquire (link in previous post) the kickstarts for it and place them in SYS: Devs/Kickstarts

if you're using the floppy versions, then MultiKickStart will help you

Thanks, yes. I am trying to run some WHDLoad games on my Amiga 4000. I can't seem to find the SYS: DEVS/Kickstarts folder. Is it under Workbench? I see a Devs folder, but I don't see a kickstarts folder inside that. Sorry, I am really new to Amiga.

Yes, SYS: is merely an alias for your boot drive.

You should create a Kickstarts folder within the Devs folder to place your Kickstart files.

You can do this from the shell with makedir DEVS:Kickstarts

(DEVS: is similarly an alias for your Devs folder on your boot drive.)

Thank you for all the help! Where do the RTB files go?

In the same folder (DEVS:Kickstarts).

I keep getting a DOS-Error #205
(object not found)
on reading "devs:kickstarts/kick34005.a500"
error.

I copied all the rom files and the RTB files over to the DEVS folder. The first one I am trying to get to work is Wizardry 6 if that is any help.

Are you sure the files are named exactly as instructed in the documentation? They should not have .rom file suffixes or anything extra.

Wow! Thanks, that was driving me insane! I sure enough had the .rom extension on all the files still AND did not have the rom.key file copied! Thank you all! This board is awesome and I now appear to have a very cool, working Amiga 4000 with my favorite games!
