Problem with my a500
My Amiga 500 stopped to work correctly. Never had a single problem before. It's expanded to 1mb.
Games that worked - lotus 3, jaguar, f1gp, sensible soccer.. - today don't work. They start to load, but then the system crash with random screen or with guru meditation / software failure. Only a few games work correctly (indianapolis 500, test drive 2). So, any ideas? |

It could be a memory problem. Try to remove and re-install the RAM expansion board. Try to clean the RAM board and the Amiga connector before connecting them again.
To be sure check all memory with any test memory tools. |

As said check the memory expansion board - does it have an onboard battery? Check the condition of that too - might've leaked
It's not the end of the world though if it is that, they can be had for very little money these days. |

You're right, I think definitely it's the expansion board.
With the ram expansion board installed, I have a lot of strange error, and every single game crashes. Without the ram expansion, my Amiga works correctly. |

Open and take out the thin who is around your A501 (I suppose that's the expansion, since you didn't mention it). Look in the battery area.
I bet the battery corroded a vast area of the little board. Don't worry, I have one A501 I was think trashed. I simply take the battery out, clean the mess and put a CR2032 (with the obligatory diode) and it work again. |

Where are you located, your avatar says Mars but somehow I think that's incorrect.
If you are then Mars is covered by Iron Oxide (hence the redness) and has an atmosphere of carbon dioxide and low gravity. It also has no internal dynamo like Earth so doesn't have a strong magnetic field protecting it from harmful radiation from the Sun. All these things are not good for an Amiga. |

lol
well, the ram expansion board (similar to a501 but not original) looks good, no battery leak. maybe one (or more) chip ram soldered in the expansion board doesn't work |

Remove the battery and try again.

Any good with a soldering Iron?
It would probably be an easy fix if it's just corrosion or battery leakage. EDIT: Sorry just noticed you said it's not leaked. Do what rkauer advised. Check for dry joints as well. Last edited by Eclipse; 27 August 2008 at 03:34. Reason: D'oh |
