Hello, i have the following problem. I wanted to connect my Amiga 500 with my tv but the only thing i see is a black screen. All the lights are on and he runs the bootdisk. But the screen stays black. I connect with a rgb lead.

Does your TV support RGB input ? Most TVs don't.

I looked in the TV guide and it says yes. But i will try it tonight on a sharp 100hz. Maybe it works on that one.

What are you using exactly for connecting to the tv?, a homemade cable or the a520 modulator?

RGB cablle with also 2 connectors at they end where the scart part(rgb) is. I got it from a other person so i don't know if it's home brew. But don't think so. Are there other options then rgb. If i can't get this cable to work.

I have a RGB23 (and 2 RCA for sound) to SCART cable which works with my commodore 1081 monitor, but it does not work with my SCART TV. It may be that the connectors for the SCART cable do not match the SCART specifications for the TV. My TV says that it does support RGB through the SCART input, however it does not work for me either.

I too would like to know if it is possible to get to work.

The problem with the cable is solved. But now when i try to load workbench i put the disk in the diskdrive the disk light turns greens you hear 2 hums (loading) and then he stops. The strange thing was this morning when i connected him to they other tv he loaded for a long time. But since i moved him to they other tv he does this. Does anyone know what the problem can be?Can it be that my disk is corrupted because i placed the Amiga on my tv?

EDit: I tried again workbench loads a long time but after that the screen stays white so i think the A500 is broken or i'm a i wrong?

probably your floppy needs a clean, or is about to die.

The best way to clean the head is with a cleaning disk.
After booting 10 or 20 times this works 100%.(on my A500)
But i really don´t know if you still can buy them.

@Henk_Glimlach

How did you get your cable to work as I still got the black screen?

You can find those floppy cleaners on ebay (though they look different to the previous attached picture), and I think they are a normal price unlike amiga stuff.

The problem that standard Amiga-to-SCART cables only work on Commodore monitors like the 1081 or 1084, but not on modern TVs although they can accept RGB, is caused by 2 lines which are missing on most cables, but some TVs need to switch their SCART into RGB-mode.

The required lines have to supply a certain voltage to pin 8 and 16. You have to get the 12V from the Amiga monitor connector and then use a resistor to adjust the right voltage. Pin 16 is responsible for letting the TV know that there is a signal coming in from the SCART connector, and pin 8 is for switching the SCART between composite and RGB.

You can find the exact pinout here:

The amiga built-in video out is monochrome, so not color will be available.
On the other hand, for cleaning the drive, take it out apart and use alcohol with a cotton bar for ears(don't know hot to spell it in english) and rub very carefully the drive heads. It will work perfectly the next time you put a disk on it.
Rub it several times to make sure it will get clean.
