Question Problems with WHDload

Good afternoon to everybody!

I'm new to the forum, I've registered because I've a problem with this emulator that doesn't seem to found answer on google.

I've also searched a bit this subforum without founding anything matching my problem.

So, first of all many compliments for the works done on FS-UAE, I think it's finally THE Amiga emulator, easy to use, crossplatform, fast, it has everything the nostalgic player would search I believe.

Now to the question:

I've installed directly from the repository FS-UAE on Linux Mint 16.

I've configured my account on OAGD.

I've bought Amiga Forever and imported all the kickstart roms.

I've downloaded a couple of games from here:

http://www.back2roots.org/Games/HD-Games/

but when I try to launch them via FS-UAE launcher it tells me I'm missing some files (not expliciting which ones) and the game cannot be loaded.

The games are Heimdall and F16 Combat Pilot.

I've put the zip files inside Document/Fs-UAE/Downloads folder without any success.

I've tried to manually select the zip without any progress.

Unfortunately the log didn't help (at least me) since the only line where I think the finger should be pointed is this:

load_hard_drives
[(u'hd://game/996cf52c-6a12-5dd6-86b9-17e89d08c271/DH0', u'a3ed33fa4db0cb3e372d9a3ec8bae92734340c99')]
-- some files are missing --

What I'm doing wrong?

Is it possible to know exactly which files the program is searching?

Thank you everybody!

Hi Kirirur and welcome to EAB

Do you mean those two HD versions on BTTR:

http://www.back2roots.org/Games/File...t%20Pilot%2C2/
http://www.back2roots.org/Games/Files/Heimdall%2C4/

?

Hi TCD, thank you!

Yes, the games are precisely those you linked in your post.

Hi Kiriur, I guess you have been a bit unlucky with those two examples, because they are not WHDLoad games (You can see on BTTR that they are described as "HD version (JST)!", JST being an alternative to WHDLoad).

As you can see on the Heimdall page, http://oagd.net/amiga/heimdall/edit: the database expects an installed WHDLoad slave version 1.0 (or one of the recognized floppy variants of course).

The short version is, the JST versions are not supported by the online database.

To get the WHDLoad version running, you either need to:
* Download the installer from http://www.whdload.de/games/Heimdall.html and install the game with Heimdall floppy images, or
* Get a pre-installed Heimdall WHDLoad version some other way.

Hi FrodeSolheim!

Thank you, for you answer! I didn't know JST was something different from WHDload. I've found an F-16.slave inside the zip however, it's incompatible nevertheless?

By the way, just to check WHDload games, do you know on any WHDload game available on the site I've posted?

Just one more question: if I've the adf(s) of a game, do I need a booting Workbench in order to install it and make a WHDload(able) games? Or there's a more rapid way?

Thank you again!

Installing some/using ready WB is much useful. But if you want you can only use WinUAE with mounted direcrory as harddisk and place "C". "L" / "S" / "Devs" and Game subdirecories and launching game from startup-sequence. But it is definitely not the fastest way like WB. Sorry for my bad English as always, I hope all above is understandable.

You can get pre-installed WHDLoad versions from http://www.whdownload.com or from the EAB file server in the folder 'Commodore_Amiga/Retroplay/WHDLoad_Updates/Games'.

With FS-UAE you don't need to install a WB environment to use WHDLoad games. The launcher can use pre-installed zipped WHDLoad games without any additional setup steps. If you use OAGD.net you won't even have to 'mount' the zip once it is scanned.

Thank you again guys!

You can't create a WHDLoad install from ADFs automatically. You can find the available WHDLoad install here: http://whdload.de
Basically all of them are available pre-installed

If you want to have a WHDLoad install of a game that is currently not supported (not on whdload.de), you can request it here: http://eab.abime.net/forumdisplay.php?f=63 (as it needs to be made by someone that knows how to create WHDLoad installs)

What do you mean? Consider for example the F-16 Combat Pilot game. I've the adf, I've the loader for this game downloaded from whdload.de, how can I create a HDfile (compatible with FS-UAE) of this game?

I'm not interested in unsupported WHDload game, just interested in running some of them from HD then from floppies.

Thank you again.

Ah, that fine of course, but most WHDLoad installs require original disk images to work (and most ADFs are cracked or at least modified). So the easier way is to just download the pre-installed versions from the sites I linked to above

Ah, ok thank you! I think I still have some original Amiga floppies but I don't know if my Amiga 1200 stills power up.

I'll take a look at the sites you posted.

Thank you again for your help!
