Updated WHDLoad Demos/Games pack.

I've just updated my WHDLoad Games and Demos packs at EAB File server

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=43633
Lazy link: ftp://ftp:amiga@grandis.nu:21/Commod.../WHDLoad_Packs

They are in the folder /Commodore_Amiga/WHDLoad_Packs/

They are a great source for WHDLOad games and demos if you are just starting and want to fill your HD with games and demos. At the current time, the pack is 3.0 and that is all you need to be updated up to 2017-07-29.

Please note: The 3.0 package is a new pack. You can not use the updater or similar to update from 2.* to 3.0. You have to restart from scratch with 3.0 as it has a lot of fixes and stuff.
The updater will be useful again for a possible 3.1 and up though.
If you already downloaded an old pack, you only need the update package, otherwise, you need all of them. The full 2.0 package and all the updates.

The 2.0 package include all Retroplay games and demos up until 2014-01-06
The 2.1 update package contains all games and demos up until 2014-04-07.
The 2.2 update package contains all games and demos up until 2014-08-24.
The 2.3 update package contains all games and demos up until 2015-03-11
The 2.4 update package contains all games and demos up until 2015-08-08
The 2.5 update package contains all games and demos up until 2016-01-06
The 2.6 update package contains all games and demos up until 2016-09-12
The 2.7 update package contains all games and demos up until 2017-07-29

How to update versions? If you get the 3.0 package, there is no update at this time. If you're going from 2.* to 3.0, you have to restart from scratch.

You can try the automatic updater if you're on windows: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=175
Otherwise, you should remove the old games before copying the new ones in to prevent any possible obsolete files from taking up space. If you are brave, you can just overwrite the files as well...
Here is how I did it in Windows, before using the mentioned updater.
  • Bring up both folders. Go into A for both folders (assuming there are updates for A).
  • Select all the updated files (and info files) and select Copy.
  • Go into the other A folder that you want to copy them to and select Paste. Now it will ask you if you want to overwrite. Select Yes.
  • Do not touch anything. Once it has finished copying, all the copied files will be selected in the destination window. Just press Delete to delete them all.
  • Select Paste again to copy all the updated games again. Now you are sure that any old files are deleted.

I do not claim ownership or responsibility for these games. I have not done any work with them, except for
1: Downloading all the packs I've found (KillerGorilla's, Retroplay and more)
2: Extracted them, sorted them into folders
3: Separated AGA games to their own pack (For non AGA users)
4: Keeping it updated with Retroplays latest updates. Removing old versions of games/demos and replacing it with his new ones.

All honors go out to the people who actually make the games WHDLoadable and keeping it updated.

There is also a "Games_WHDLoad_UnpackOnAmiga" folder on the FTP. It contains a very few games and demos which can not be extracted on PC due to filenames (CON etc). You'll have to download the archives to your Amiga and extract them there directly. All other games can safety be stored in Windows/Linux etc. As for EmeraldMines_v1.0_CD.lha in that folder, it can be stored on PC, but it contains over 50.000 files so I opted to not include it in the package.

These are packed with WinRAR 5+. If you are having problems unpacking them, check that you are not using a very old version.

Thanks Turran, top stuff!

Do these updated packs contain all the games from the original packs as well, do i still need to keep my original packs or should i combine them with these new updated ones?

This contains the original pack as well. You can delete the old pack if you download it again =)

Thanks a lot turran, they really are nice tidy packs!

I removed all the various old packs i had on my A600 and i'm putting your ones on it now.

And all the ecs/ocs whd games and demos look like they will fit nicely onto my 4gb card alongside my 150mb os partition with a little room to spare

Thanks Again, as i realize how much effort you would of went to to sort all this stuff out!

Yes, took a bit of time, but I love tinkering with stuff like this =) Very little time to play games and just poking the hardware and getting a perfect workbench.

I noticed there is a folder in A which contains .ADF files and is not a WHDload game. Naturally, I deleted it for the next update and forgot its name...

Just do a search in the non AGA package for .adf files and you'll see one.. might have been Argentina or something.

Delete that folder and .info file to save space!

Done! You were correct, it was called Argentina and was about 122mb in size, so is a nice saving.

Thanks.

Hi Turran.

I noticed a few minor things in your packs, the ecs versions of Primal Rage and Virocop are missing in the ocs/ecs set of whdload games, i am not positive but i think the aga version of Primal Rage may also work on 2mb ecs amigas!

And there are 3 aga games left over in the ecs S set, they are SkidmarksAGA, SlamTiltAGA and SleepwalkerAGA!

Maybe in your next update you could also fix these up.

Apart from that, they are superb packs, thanks again!

Unpack them under emulation or real Amiga to Amiga formatted hd (ie not FAT32).

Most games will work but there are the odd one out that will go bad if you do, trust me I know.

These are stored on my linux server unpacked and I have yet to find any that have broken because of the file system. I do not know if there is a difference if you unpack them to a NTFS share but it should complain about that file if so, during unpacking... They have been archived using Winrar 4.10 on windows (from linux share)

@Zetr0: You're most welcome. Glad it helps =)

Edit: I'm uploading my images collection as well. Just a ton of pictures I've gathered, from games etc. They are sorted into A-Z as well and each icon is a conversion from the original picture so it will take some juice just to open the folders in workbench...

Just had a check to fix thig. Virocop is there as far as I can see (might have been added later on though) and I can not find a non AGA version of Primal Rage anywhere. Not by Retr0 or killergorilla.. Is there one?
