WB 3.9 Prefs prob
Hi,
I used to know quite a lot but have neglected my Amiga's for a long time and am now after advice. I have 2 problems, both on my A4000 running 3.9 1. I cannot save my time prefs. Save button is ghosted. 2. When I boot the Miggy I get Newicons Library missing or obsolete, but cannot find a newer version. Any ideas will be most welcome since my only other choice is to relive the 1st of December 2002 over and over Cheers Rod |

Open your 4000 now! Remove the battery; it's probably leaking over the the clock circuit.
It's common problem with aging 4000's (and other models). |

A number of years ago I removed the battery from the board and extended it with the use of wire. Not to say that that's not the trouble but why would it affect the software environment. I can 'use' time prefs just not 'save'

from what I know, when the "save" in time prefs is ghosted, it means that the amiga cannot find available any clock circuit...

NewIcons are supported by icon.library since OS3.5 and you can use this wrapper http://www.aminet.net/package/util/libs/NewIconEmu for programs which use this library.

@rgen: he has already installed this lib, otherwise the message wouldn't pop up.
@Rod4000: remove NewIcons and DefIcons from s:user-startup. Also delete these files from C:, they are no longer needed. Regarding the clock: the Amiga has two clocks. One is the main system clock. Every Amiga has such one. It is set by the shell command Date or when you click on Use in Prefs/Time. The other one is the battery backed up clock. It is only read once at system startup and copied to the system clock. You can set it by the SetClock command in a shell window or when you click on Save in Prefs/Time. Of course this only works if the computer *has* a battery backup up clock. Not every Amiga has one and yours obviously stopped working. You can try to enter the command setclock reset in a shell window in order to wake up the clock. If this does not help, you can try http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online...startClock.lha It was written for an A500 long time ago. It just fills the clock's address area with zeroes, so it might as well damage the clock or the computer. Use it on your own risk. |

Thanks for the advice, I will give a few of the ideas a go and see what happens.
Nice to be back in the Amiga environment. Cheers Rod |
