MCP problems
Been doing a clean install of WB3.1 in WinUAE, and adding various utilities to make it look less WB like, and i have a problem with MCP. It installs ok, that's not the problem. What happens though is when I set up the various options/assign paths onsaving and exiting the program, it doesn't save anything. On reopening it reverts back to the default install setup. the icon tooltype is set to write, so what the hell is going wrong? the package was taken off CUCD18. Would that be the problem?

Check the permissions of the file it saves to and make sure they are set to RWED.
I know this doesn't answer your question exactly, but you should replace MCP with something cleaner like MultiCX. MCP is well known for being crappy. I changed many years ago and I am very happy with MutiCX. |

I love such bold statements. MCP isn't crappy, you just need to know how to configure it properly. There's no need to "replace it with something cleaner" as it works perfectly fine. I "loved" this MCP bashing back in the already, "nice" to see some things still haven't changed.

Yeah I know you love such bold statements as you make them yourself.
As you can see, the original poster can't even configure it. I guess he is also a raving lunatic and not on the god level of knowledge you got, Stingray. Other patches are cleaner, simpler and do not create as many conflicts as MCP did in many systems, not just mine. User above you also confirms there are buggy versions and recommends an older release. |

Yes, and that is perfectly fine. Check his reply and your statement. Maybe you'll see the difference then. Maybe... |

Funny, you are the arrogant one, who tells me I am an idiot. You always have problems with me for whatever reason. Don't you have better things to do? You also fail to differentiate sarcasm from arrogance, and a suggestion from a statement.
It's sad when talented people like you have attitude problems for no good reason. |

I had MCP back in the day installed. I even joined the beta testing team (Dieter Groppe?). It had some neat features but there always was bugs that prevented me using it full-time because it just caused problems in Workbench use. Then I also tried MCX, it was nice but there was some problem with that also (can't remember now) and that is also disabled.
So how about a truce - there are bugs in multi-commodities because their variety of features and what might work for some setup doesn't work for another. |

I totally agree. As I said, my post was a SUGGESTION, not a statement, the 'problem' here was not created by me at all.

Ok folks, thanks for the answers. I've ended up removing it from the system, and am now going to get hold of a copy of multicx as recommended earlier.

Did you check the permissions of the preferences file first?

MultiCX is abit naff as it hasnt got any real useful patches. MCP is great. Just dont go enabling every single patch at its solid, always has been. I wouldnt be without its Quickdraw/Quicklayers patch (solid window moving). No idea why no one else has ever implemented them in a standalone patch that works with both rtg and aga.
Both are designed around patching Os3.1, so you have to be a little conservative on what patches you use with os35/39. |

Akira, yes I did check the permissions and they were set correctly. in the end I got hold of a copy of MultiCX, and whilst it doesn't have as many features as MCP, i've foundit to be extremely stable and reliable.

Hi! Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but mcp133b1.lha is not in the zone anymore. Could someone please re-up it?

I know it is an old thread and Basquemactee1 don`t need an answer anymore but there wasn`t/isn`t a solution. There was a MCPPrefs Save/Use/Test bug with an old version. The latest version 1.48 works. Basquemactee1 description sounds like a file access problem.
The prefs will be stored in ENV:MCP2/MCP.config and ENVARC:MCP2/MCP.config what are text files. However, general file access problems like "prefs not saved" can be examines with SnoopDos. Just start it, press MCPPrefs "Save" button and see the SnoopDos output. |
