The rough gfx look great on the Pandora's tiny display.

john4p: Didn't know you used a Pandora. Always fancied giving that a go. there's a new one in the pipeline isn't there?

Mostly I use WinUAE on my laptop but sometimes I play on my trusty old Pandora from 2010.

I don't think there will be new Pandoras produced. It's all about its successor, the Pyra, now. But that one has a pretty high price point (and isn't finished yet).
Got the Pandora for 250 Euros back then. They're more expensive now!

Yes, the Pyra is the one i was referring too. 500 euros is pretty steep.

I always wanted a Pandora, I do a fair amount of SNES emulation and thought it might be ideal for that.

The SNES-emulator is not very good on Pandora. I only play SNES games with bsnes in Retroarch on PC these days.
The PS Vita has been hacked recently. You could get one for ~100$. It needs to still be on firmware 3.60 (or below) to be able to use homebrew. I think it should have good SNES-emulation.

Amiga, Mega Drive/Genesis, PlayStation 1 and GameBoy Advance all run very well on Pandora though.

I played quite well but unfortunately I used all bombs before the third boss...

Considering SWIV's 100%- and Battle Squadron's 109%-rating I'd rate Mega Typhoon 115%.

edit: Good progress, liviux.

Two players are certainly keeping the EAB flag flying at the moment, but where's everyone else? The Lemon mob have wasted no time getting stuck in to this game...

As for the game itself... I blinked and missed it, pretty much. There's an awful lot going on. Probably too much to make out sometimes.

@John4p:. I used to read Amiga Action and Amiga Format (still do sometimes!). For the 4/5 games I could afford each year I'd obsess over the reviews. Longevity of play/interest was fundamental to my choice, hence I never bought a shoot em up, I was much more into rpgs or SWOS or F1GP.

So I agree, the reviews for battle squadron et all are strange, and mega typhoon does best them all possibly.

^ Actually I think the 109%-rating was fair. It was 1989 and no Amiga shoot'em up was on that level of perfection as Battle Squadron. Didn't think there was a better shooter for Amiga until we started this round.

But I agree on not paying for shoot'em ups back then.

Got to level 5 which really seems identical to level 1. Didn't get far there because I had no smartbombs anymore.

Never played this before though I'd heard about it. Nice game but Battle Squadron, SWIV and Hybris are all better imo.
Impressive speed and playfield, but no two player option, crappy sfx (sounds like 1987), no ingame music, no high score saving, lack of presentation & some rough gfx at times

I find the game incredibly frustrating, but I think it is impressive in what it dos. Sure SWIV was smooth and just as manic, but SWIV did slow down with loads of action on the screen sometimes, and the colours were brown, then yellow, then green and then blue, very detailed but not so colourful. This game is one of the few ECS 1MB games, and I find it technically amazing and far beyond some limitations of what the Amiga could do. Until 1990, all the SEUs on the Amiga looked like Sidewinder - i.e. very primitive, so to see this game appear some years after Commodore bit the dust is nothing short of staggering.

I heard of it back in the day, but never really tried it out fully until last year, when I used all the continues to complete the first 4 levels. You can see this video in a playguide, which will be on the LemonTubeAmiga channel shortly.

There are still a lot of lesser known shooters which are top rated: Gumbee F99, Tubular Worlds, Wings of Death, Wendetta, Apano Sin, Frenetic, XP8, Lethal Xcess - which are all great games and never get a vote. Something for the mystery rounds perhaps?

Had huge problems in level 3 but got lucky: at one point dying yielded 2 extra lives.

I bought a PMP2S for £30 a month or so ago. A neat little handheld for SNES/Megadrive/GBA emulation, plus it can play various music files (.mp3, .wav., .wma etc.) and video formats (FLV, WMV, MP4 etc.) - however any large videos (e.g. 600x480 resolution) play with a noticeable frame-rate drop, but the sound plays at normal speed! Small video's (e.g. 320x240 resolution) play perfectly fine
