Indivision AGA MK2 A4000D Display Issue

Hello!

I bought an Indi AGA MK2 from someone on another board a while back and just finally got around to installing it today (the wife and kids are off visiting her parents, so I finally get some time to play!). Noticed some odd behavior and wonder if anyone knows what might be going on... When I turn on the system, the screen is nice and clear for the first 5-10 seconds. Then it gets wavy and almost looks like there is some sort of interference going on for the next 30-60 seconds, then it gets nice and clear again and seems to stay that way.

Is this normal or anyone know what could be going on? It's installed in a towered A4000D, and I attached the ground wire to a different screw than the one identified in the manual since my tower doesn't use the top left corner screw, although I can't imagine that would make any difference?

Thanks!

Oddly enough, one of my external scandoublers does the exact same thing but it only does it on certain monitors - other ones are perfectly clear constantly.

The Yellow cable is just to make sure the PCB gets a good ground contact, as does the motherboard on the Chassis stand-off's.

I've seen an old CRT VGA monitor do this @ certain Screen Resolutions, but you're lucky the wavy-ness goes away. My 17" VGA form-factor was always wavy on my A4000 with modified A2320. As soon as I put an NEC3-FG 15" Multisync on the Amiga, I never experienced wavy-ness again on the same Amiga Hardware.

Try another monitor, maybe two, but be sure they are a different make/model to be extra sure.

My old scandoublers from Eyetech tend to do similar effects as the circuits warm up. Most old scandoublers do have an adjustable pot to do fine tuning.

Quite true, but the Indivision does not iirc.

I just bought an AGA 1200 Mk2cr from Amigakit and found that at higher resolutions I was getting a number of weird artefacts and randiom lines on the screen.
On investigation I found that the board itself gets very hot to the touch. After attaching some thermal gap filler and a small chipset heatsink to the AGA card the image is now rock steady and artefact free.

Why is there also a 2nd heatsink?

That's over the Lisa chip (I think). He might have issues putting the keyboard back down. I had to file down the heat sink I put on there in order to get it to fit.

Don't see the point in doing that

It's over the Lisa chip as it gets quite hot too, the sink is a very low profile one so the keyboard went on O without any filing needing done.

@ Vypr

That's a great observation fella. Nice one!

Just shows how fickle these old style sockets are when fitting over Lisa's dull 20+ year old legs....

The Heat-sink just finishes it off with style.
