Amiga A4000D repair help
Hi All
I'm new here. I have recently dug out my A4000 from the garage to get it working again as I want to get some projects off the HD. It is a A4000D revision 2. It has a CV64 4mb, GVP040 accelerator, Some GVP Memory and HD card and also a flicker fixer. The battery has been removed. It was all fine before it was stored but it has been about 10 years since I last fired it up. Now when I plug it in, the power light comes on, a HDD spins up and the keyboard light comes on (I can press caps lock and the light will appear). However I just get a grey screen. I can also soft reset the Amiga with the keyboard. I used to be very knowledgeable about all this as I was an avid Amiga user, however time and age has played tricks with me so I do not have a clue were to start. I want to get it going again as it has a lot of sentimental value for me. So anyone got an idea of where I should start looking? I have young kids so I cant have it all out and test it over days, so I would appreciate it if anyone who has knowledge off these things could help give me some pointers on where to start so I can have a few hours once the kids (And wife) are in bed to try to troubleshoot what the issues might be. Thanks Last edited by qatmix; 27 October 2015 at 16:28. |

Wait two or three minutes. Do you still get a grey screen?

Erm, I haven't tried that. I will try that tonight. What would that be?

Dead HDD.
The other thing to try would be to re-seat the accelerator and the kickstart ROM |

OK, cool so I will try these things tonight.. If I remember right it was a nightmare to change the CPU card in the 4000, the whole case needs disassembling. As an aside, is there any UK amiga repair service anymore?

Look under services. £30 + postage for a capacitor replacement and I'm sure they'd get it working for a few quid more. |
