Controller buttons not working

I've been playing a few whdload games and have been having problems with my quickshot controllers. Basically the directional pad works, however the fire buttons don't seem to work. The only way of 'pressing fire' is to flick the autofire switch.

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar issues? I'm going to try booting a game off a floppy tomorrow to see if it just happens with whdload.

If autofire works, then the problem is in the joystick, not in the Amiga. Probably the push buttons are dead.

Thanks. It's weird how it's happening with 2 controllers, but maybe ive just been very unlucky

Insert joystick in mouse port and test it using some program that uses left mouse button, or test it in Workbench. Fire button = mouse left button.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I checked both controllers and dismantled them to see if they needed cleaning. Basically it looks like the buttons themselves aren't pressing on the rubber switches underneath properly (as the fire button worked when I just pressed on them manually). A simple fix would probably be to put something inside the button, but it's getting something that fits.
