A1200 won't boot if internal floppy drive connected

Tonight I installed a Lyra 2 keyboard adapter in my (non-towered) Amiga 1200. Now, the adapter works great, but after putting the Amiga back together, it won't boot or output a picture if the internal floppy drive is connected to the motherboard. The floppy drive worked fine before, and the Amiga works as normal as long as the floppy drive is not connected.

Did I break something? I'm pretty certain the floppy cables are connected like they should (although I didn't find any info on the proper way to connect them).
Are Amiga 500 floppy drives compatible with the A1200? I have a spare one here I could use for parts.

Bonus question: if I end up opening my A500 for parts, are the keyboards compatible between the two machines? My 1200 has a british keyboard layout which I'd like to replace with the Finnish layout in my A500.

It sounds like the floppy cable is the wrong way round. If the floppy light is on all the time it definitely is!

As Pyterman said your floppy cable is on wrong way round, take one end off and turn through 180 deg and put it back on.

Also look at the cable one lead of it will be coloured or striped meaning this is pin 1, look at the connections on the motherboard and d/drive and they will indicate Pin 1 so join the dots

Thanks for the replies. The floppy cable was connected the right way round - I tried turning it the other way and got the symptoms mentioned. So the machine doesn't boot no matter which way the floppy cable is connected.

Your problem didn't happen until after you installed the Lyra 2, so remove it and put the A1200 back together and see if it works as expected.

Got it working now! I had to dismantle the Amiga and put it back together piece by piece, floppy started working immediately. No idea what caused the problem in the first place, but I'm happy everything works now.

Hard to say, probably something shorted when re-assembled or the board flexed and exposed a cracked track or dodgy solder joint, or you're just a clumsy sod and didn't put it back together correctly
