Cody's Musically Magnificent Amiga Top 50 (Entries 20->11)
And bringing us into the teens:
Position: 20 Game: Kid Gloves 2 Musician: Tim Bartlett Publisher/Developer: Millennium UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic..._Gloves_2.html Okay, I know what you're thinking. This seems like another cutesy collection. It is, but luckily, the great melodies break through the cuteness to turn these mods into Top 50 material! mod.attract tune starts like this, with trumpet and pipe instruments. The main tune breaks in at 00:42 seconds. mod.castle island is a toe-tapping little number. mod.fire island follows the tradition of its sibling mods well. mod.water island is good too, with a watery theme. mod.ice island is from the first level and one that most players will have heard most. A great tune! Of course, the classic sound from Kid Gloves 2 is the deep voice which says "KKEEEYYY!". |

Game: Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 Musician: Barry Leitch Publisher/Developer: Gremlin/Magnetic Fields UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...s/Lotus_2.html All Amiga owners will know mod.bootup - an Amiga classic. Check out all the jingles too - small but smart pieces of music. They are all associated with a particular level and road style. mod.jingle1 will be the most familiar, because it's from the first level. mod.jingle2, mod.jingle5 and mod.jingle6 are the best ones. mod.new is great too, in a similar style to bootup. UnExoticA also has two excellent bonus remixes: XM.Lotus_2_Completion_Remix_1 and XM.Lotus_2_Completion_Remix_2. Hmmm, maybe this should be higher up ![]() |

Whoever composed the tunes for the Lotus series, I don't like his work. I cannot exactly tell why, but I always found the tunes boring and unimaginative. They are rather short, too. Jaguar XJ 220 has much better music which slowly builds up to a climax. Anyway, this is just a personal opinion.
p.s. Cody, I sincerely hope you haven't put Lotus III in your top ten. The ingame Zool-soundtrack is horrible. ![]() |

Fear not Tim! That's the only Lotus entry in the top 50 - I'd have combined the others into one entry, like the Beast games, if they were in.

I always liked the Lotus 2 intro theme. Better than the 3rd game's tunes.

Game: Fly Harder Musician: Torsten Fassbender Publisher/Developer: Starbyte UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...ly_Harder.html This tricky Thrust-type game starts with mod.ep-flyharder title, a melancholy tune of drums, pipes and a "Welcome to the future" speech sample. It all suggests deep, dark space. The environments are a bit more colourful than the intro/title suggests; the in-game mod, mdat.ingame, is too. mod.ep-flyharder high. finishes this set off. |

Game: Worms: The Director's Cut Musician: Bjørn Lynne Publisher/Developer: Ocean/Team 17 UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...ctors_Cut.html How do you combine the two themes of comedy Worms and military warfare in a mod? Call Bjørn Lynne! And then you also get a wonderful tune. The Worm and gun samples perfectly complement the music in this mod. Play this and you'll be whistling the tune all day. |

Game: Escape From Colditz Musician: Bjørn Lynne Publisher/Developer: Digital Magic UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...m_Colditz.html mod. loadtune is a great loading tune that is perhaps not heard much as players usually skip past the titlescreen and onto the game. Of course, with the ripped mods, it's easy to listen to it all! mod. whenwin is a great piano piece and mod. gameover is a slow built-up tune. Great Bjørn Lynne tunes! |

Game: Utopia Musician: Barry Leitch Publisher/Developer: Gremlin UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotica/games/Utopia.html The four mods here all manage to be varied, but all great at the same time. mod.utopia ingame1 is a slow, steady mod, with good instruments. mod.utopia ingame2 is a fantastic mod, with striking instruments. There are interesting parts where the instruments become very quick (e.g. drumbeats and then a techno-type sound). I really like the changes that occur during this tune. mod.utopia ingame3 is a futuristic sort of techno-tune. Very nice too. mod.utopia... finishes off the collection with a version of a well-known classical piece, although I've forgotten who wrote it or what it's called. |

Game: Toki Musician: Pierre-Eric Loriaux Publisher/Developer: Ocean UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotica/games/Toki.html http://hangar18.campus.luth.se/exoti...-Eric/Toki.lha (The main link seems to be down) The excellent Toki starts with a cool chip-type tune - puma.Newmod4, which is used during a part in the game where you have to jump and duck on a moving cart. Quite exciting music. The level one music, puma.Toki1 has an addictive beat and tune to it. puma.Toki2 isn't the best mod here, but a good chip theme appears every while. Sometimes I like little snippets of music from mods - puma.Toki5 has one such bit at around 00:54. The ice level music, puma.Toki7 is very good. It reminds me of ice and this level. Check out the cool bit at about 00:30. A wonderful tune in the game over mod too - puma.Toki91. |

Game: Catch 'Em Musician: Oliver Weirich Publisher/Developer: Prestige UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic.../Catch_em.html A not very well-known game, but check out this mod - mod.catch'em.07. I think it's great! mod.catch'em.09 is similar to number 07, but not quite as good. mod.catch'em.08 and mod.catch'em are also worth listening to. |

This is a pretty quiet section of the top ten - everyone agrees with me now - hurray!
Position: 12 Game: No Second Prize Musician: Matthias Steinwachs Publisher/Developer: Thalion UnExotica Link: http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...ond_Prize.html Music and graphics come together perfectly in the intro to No Second Prize. Lovely 3D graphics on the screen and the electric guitars of mod.nsptitel through the speakers. Smooth! More guitars in mod.nspmenue, but not as a good as the into music. |

I am starting to freak out. No Jochen Hippel, no OnEscape, no Shadow of the Third Moon... Especially the last two... They are Amiga games right? Yet, they are masterpieces. Musically no game can go half there. Maybe Xenon 2... Buy a cd-rom and play those beauties...

i'm agree, where's Jochen Hippel tracks ? Amberstar, Astaroth, Chambers of Shaolin, Lethal Excess....
There's also some really pretty nice music in Traps'n'Treasure. Anyway your suggestion of games musics are worth to listen, as well as all from others people. Even if they're not always in my taste. PS: Jochen Hippel rulez ![]() |
