mpega deficon

I'm trying to launch mpega3.5 when I double click on an .mp3 icon on Workbench.

I've tried changing the deficon tool type to C:mpega run from workbench and all I get is the mpega opening a shell listing its options.

I tried setting it to launch from cli, but then it opens a window and when I click to run it, it plays back the mp3 SLOWLY.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

For MPEGA and its usage I would recommend to read the doc. I can`t help with deficons (wasn`t there a Prefs for it where you can set deficons behaviour?!) but I recommend to use a Filemanager (e.g. DOpus) instead of using Workbench. It is much more powerful, faster and better.

I actually have MPEGA working in Dopus 4 by setting up a button. I can set up a filetype with Amplifier as the default tool and it works. But it sounds worse and uses more CPU time than MPEGA.

But what I really want is to be able to click on an .mp3 in Workbench and the it just plays.

You could use a script, here is an example:

MPEGAScripts.lha

Copy the PlayMP3 script to S: and def_mp3 to SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys (or alter your preferred deficon to match). If you don't want an output window rename PlayMP3_NIL to PlayMP3 and use that instead.

Thanks James that worked.

But it seems no way to get mpega to stop before finishing playing the file, so I looked for a simple intuitive GUI.

Just a simple gadtools play stop pause fwd back next load...thats all, but no... until i found this BMG: http://de4.aminet.net/mus/play/BMG.readme.

If anyone is interested I went into deficons prefs, and set the mp3 deficon to open BMG through the CLI. The GUI pops up and the file plays immediately. Its a simple GUI that allows mpega to be configure as well, and uses very little resources.
