Why close support threads?

I noticed a lot of threads closed recently, some in 'support' like this one:

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=67381

Why close them down? If someone has s similar issue in the future they might want to add to it, saves opening a new thread with the same issue.

Anyway, just noticed that and wanted to comment.

This particular thread was closed because the OP requested it. Even so, it remained open for a while longer until it was evident that the problem really had been resolved.

If someone has a similar issue sometime later, then the new thread will eventually be merged with the old one, provided that a sufficient degree of similarity exists.
