A1200 boot up problems
hi all,
just wondering if you could give me a few hints as to what the problem is here.. i turn the amiga on and the power light flashes a few times, resets and then repeats this process over and over. i have a feeling that its a problem with the hd but i wanna hear from a few experts here ![]() |

It does that without any disk in it? If you have an HD, it could be that...
Try removing it and see what hapens. your PSU might not be giving enough juice anymore. |

Quite simple really, you'll have to dis-assemble the 1200
![]() You'll need a small flatblade (or real torx (sp?) bits) to get the screws out of the bottom. It's not too tough. Be careful taking the top off, there's wires running to the Power/HDD lights. They're fairly long, so you should have plenty of room. Stock 1200's have standard 2.5" (laptop) IDE hardrives. There's only one 44-pin ribbon cable going to it (40 data, 4 power). Just unhook that cable, and the drive is offline. |

well!! i took my amiga 1200 apart and looked at it for a few seconds.. couldent disconect the hd because the metal case covering the mobo was to close to the ribon connected to it. put it back together.. and then.. it started working again.. i dont get it!... probably jiggled the ribon a bit or something but yeah...
thanks for all of your help though |

I still think your PSU might not be giving enough juice and there IS a chance your miggy wil fail again.
If it does it again, open the 1200 up, remove the metal shielding (it's kind of an useless thing anyway ![]() BE CAREFUL with that 2.5" IDE connector! The pins are really weak and will bend at the minimum force applied to them. |

Indeed.
Some Amiga shop might have the Goliath PSU available (or some similar high power PSU for the Amiga), and you could try and modify a PC one for Amiga use, if you can use a soldering iron (I cant! ![]() |
