Mounting an external HD

I am trying to mount an empty HD in UAE so that I can set it up to use in my real A2000. But I cant get UAE to see it when I boot Workbench from an adf.

When I connected an HD that already has Workbench intalled on it there was no problem it just saw the drive and mounted it but with the blank drive it wont.

I have formated the drive in windows and cleaned it with diskpart. Is there something else I need to do to it?

If you wish to mount an empty HD in WinUAE in order to set it up for use in your Amiga, you would normally cancel any request that pops up in Windows which offers to initialize the drive. There must be no Windows drive letter(s) assigned to the drive if you wish to mount it as an Amiga hard drive in the emulation.

Since formatting the drive in Windows, you have cleaned it with Diskpart (I'm assuming this means that you have removed all partitions from the drive), so there should now be no obstacle to mounting this drive in WinUAE.

Then, having mounted it in the GUI, The drive will need preparing just as it would in a real Amiga with the HDTools provided on the Workbench Install disk.
