Question Found broken floppies of these (Part 3)

as already mention in another game/demo REQ thread, my kryoflux has been doing overtime during these hot summernights after finding in the basement 2 forgotten floppy boxes under pile of dust; and still some left in irrecoverable bit rot state
these disks cannot to be found in TOSEC or in collections I downloaded, so will try here

The screenshots come from floppies which could at least be recovered in a bootable state but fail right after

From a quick check I have The Director 1.6, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

Please allow me 3-5 days as I'm not home right now, but at work (actually I'm always at work the 3 months of summer season due to hotel business).

I'll get you informed though.

I'm not sure what version it is, but I have originals and backups for both The Director ©1987 and The Director Toolkit ©1988. If it's the same thing you have (released by The Right Answers Group, it's a "display and animation language" that has a sort of BASIC-style syntax), then I might even already have it imaged in DMS format, I'd have to look. Still, Phantom's version may be different (this one is designed for KS 1.3).

Edit: Can't find it in my self-imaged folder. I'd have to make space for my A2K and hook it up to image it. Same as Phantom, probably within the next 3-5 days (and I'll also be able to determine which version it is).

Edit 2: On top of that, I did find four separate ADFs that you may wish to have a copy of. The Director v1.2, The Director Toolkit v1.0, and a 2-disk set The Director v2.0 (program and tutorial) that appear to have come from a TOSEC set. I'll shortly zip them up and throw them in the zone.

Edit 3: Zoned. When I can get my A2K up I'll check to see if my physical disks what I've already uploaded or if they're separate versions, and if the latter, I'll image them and zone them as well.

it is exactly as you described LocalH, it was 1987ish software to create some animations. Thanks a lot!

(folder ACU) - maybe some more you are missing; just have a look.

Hey dirkies,

For comparison with the dumps I am able to make, could you upload for me your .ADFs of the BS1&TKT Sounddisk 1 and War Tools v3 disks you have sent me, please?

the ADFs were actually taken from the 3.5" floppies which were included in the package, so you can kryoflux those and compare. You also now have the list of the tracks that were copied OK off the 5.25" disk to the 3.5" disk, so assuming the 3.5" floppies are still ok, you should just focus with kryoflux on the few tracks that I could not read out ok on the 5.25" floppy about 10 years ago on real amiga hardware.

If you still have these ADFs, could you upload them for me anyway, please?

The image I have dumped from the 3½-inch version of the CCS Music collection disk is different to yours down at the single bit level in several places and in large chunks of data in others.

It will help me focus on the troublesome areas of all the original floppies if I have your dumps of all the 3½-inch floppies in the package to compare with mine.

When recovering old floppy disks you need all the information you can get. Often it is necessary to edit the data in the disk images to match the checksums and repair the read errors. The differences between your dump and mine may pinpoint flaky data on the original disks, which will simplify this process considerably.

Yes, thanks for including that list. It will be very useful when I start dumping the 5¼-inch disks.

no longer have ADFs, they were just for testing, and came off the 3.5" floppies I sent to you, with a single read retry set on Kryoflux when I tried to create ADFs from these floppies, as it was NOT that important to ADF them, as the 3.5" floppy is *incomplete* anyway. It can just be useful if some tracks on the 5.25" are irrecoverable but were 10 years ago copied ok to the 3.5" floppy.
The tracks are on the paper and also mentioned on the 5.25" sleeves.

Hence you got these 3.5" floppies aswell, you can redump them. If they have bad tracks (as I noticed) this is NOT because of the 5.25" source but just bit-rot over the years.

I must however stress my kryoflux gave different read results on different brands of 3.5" drives, some disks were mostly bad on 1 drive but good on another drive (with retry count set to 30), and the other way around with other disks, hence it is interesting to have at least 2 different brands of drives on a kryoflux.

They don't have very descriptive volume names, though (both ST-00 ).

most likely because the player needs to find the instruments on pathname ST-00 for CCS disk and for the BS1 as most trackers need ST-00 to even start
