CD Audio Issues

Hi,
I have got a heap of CD32/CDTV games that I wouldn't mind playing, and with my configurations I use, I am able to boot them up correctly. It's just that when it comes to games that use audio tracks instead of normal music do I experience choppy sound when the CD accesses them (ie: the CD LED light is blinking. I have decided to mount images rather than playing them directly from the CD, and I have tried messing around with my current sound settings to no avail. I don't understand why this happens.

Include winuaebootlog.txt and winuaelog.txt, thanks. (Enable logging in misc panel). Logs will be written to same directory as winuae.

Apologies, here. As you can see, the game I tested this on was Prehistorik, a game that does use CD Audio tracks. In winuaelog.txt, I noticed these lines:

Quote:
39-872 [25 125x263]: Illegal wput at 00cbf09a=00003fff PC=f0062e
39-872 [25 133x263]: Illegal wget at 00cbf01c PC=f00634
39-872 [25 158x263]: Illegal wput at 00cbf09a=fffff2d4 PC=f00654
39-872 [25 164x263]: Illegal wget at 00cbf09a PC=f00658
40-775 [70 070x063]: Illegal instruction: 4e7b at 00F00568 -> 00F00586
Could this be the problem?

Log messages are normal.

Do you get same problem if you change emulation sound device to DirectSound?

Same result.

Edit: I tried the same with OpenAL, but again same problem.

Try disabling sound emulation completely. Does CD audio still have glitches? (CDA is completely separate)

Yes, the glitches are still there even when the sound is disabled.

Does http://www.winuae.net/files/b/winuae.zip work better? If yes, some more testing is needed to find good enough buffer size value.

Great.

Final test: does both linked versions have good CD audio quality?

They both work fine, but honestly I can't tell the difference between the two since they both have the 2011.08.12 date stamp. The only thing I noticed is some slight pauses while I was playing the games, but I am certain that this is the result of my hard disc wildly accessing itself. Otherwise, the CD audio quality is goof.

If a certain part of the game loads, an audio track doesn't start for about 2-3 seconds.

Thanks. Only difference between versions was number of CD sectors buffered. Small increase in number of sectors buffered before sending complete buffer to waveout (yes, CDA emulation uses ancient waveout routines, this needs to be improved someday..) was enough to fix this problem.

Start-up delay is usually normal, real CD32 and CDTV have quite slow CD hardware.
