A1500 , what to do ?
Ok , so I've been digging round in the loft and what I thought was an A2000 is an A1500 !
I've never fired it up , bought a load of Amiga bits in the mid 90s and this was with it. I've Googled it and it says it's an A2000 with no HD and 2 floppies . Is it worth trying to get it running and find an HD controller ? Or do I put it on a shelf in my office and admire it ? |

I would not bother upgrading it tbh. I would leave her stock, maybe sell it and go for a 4000 or something and upgrade that.
I really don't think those older ones are worth the money/hassle. But hey that's just me and you do what you want to do. Whatever you decide to do make sure you have plenty of upgrading pics for us to see. |

Very easy to find on eBay and Amibay, there are combi Ram/CPU upgrades, these are best to go for unless you just want to keep it very cheap an just get a 4/8mb Ram Upgrade. A2000's make a good entry level big box Amiga, they can be quite cheap to upgrade if you shop around whereas you'll spend a small fortune on an A4000. All the best, Steve. |

They are certainly still worth taking care of. I have a bunch of amigas 3-2000 2-500 3-4000 1-3000 1-1000 1-4000T. Currently the 2 I have working are one of the 2000s and 1 500 the others are still under testing or need some repair. The 2000 that I have up and running right now as I type (I am currently dmsing all my floppies).
The 2000 has in it Video toaster 4000 GVP 2060 with 128 meg ram Megachip 2 meg Chipmem upgrade Indvision ECS CyberGraphx 643D Delfina Lite Deneb 386 Commodore Bridgeboard with 486 upgrade Buddha IDE - 120 gig harddrive Soundblaster and VGA card for the bridgeboard As for usb hardware attached. I have 2 320 gig harddrives for pictures 6300 HP scanner HP photosmart 7960 and a brother laser printer. right now it is my work horse. Three is not much (except AGA games) that it can't do. I even use it for work when I am doing mass mailings with pagestream and Final Data. |

Ok , haven't dragged it out of the loft yet.
Is this the battery I need , assuming it hasn't already eaten the MoBo ? http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/displayPro...-2072-00001000 Also I've got an A500 with , from memory , a RTC , is that the same battery ? I can get them ordered through work if they're the right ones . |

Use one of these instead... http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=630 Or use a holder so you can change it more easily; http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=724 http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=697 |

don't worry, it will work with 3 volts, too. several years at least. just don't forget the diode
btw, you can find it cheaper in some local shop. they are 'common as mud' given that every PC has it. @Paul_s but its NiMh, those are much less prone to leaking compared to NiCd. so its not such a bad idea if one is willing to check it every now and then (and replace it yet again) Last edited by orange; 29 July 2011 at 11:45. |

@Willbloke
To be honest, depends on what you are going to use your A1500 for? If you just play games then a battery isn't really essential and it'll run fine without it. I guess having a clock for date/time stamping files is useful though if you plan on running a HDD based system? @ orange cool, didn't notice that! Last edited by Paul_s; 29 July 2011 at 11:53. |
