It should work 100% as a replacement for the 68000 already in your A500.

The speed will not be increased.

What's wrong with your existing 68k?

This won't run at 12MHz just by plugging it in (but I'm sure you know that).

Hi Alexh, yup, i was wondering if there is any way to increase all clocks to reflect a higher speed

I got a 16mhz thinking it would increase but it doesn't.

It would be good to know why?

Cheers

The speed printed on the chip is the maximum speed it can be used at. The A500 runs the chip at around 7 MHz, because that is the frequency the motherboard generates for the CPU.

It is not trivial to increase the clock speed due to everything in the A500 being synchronized.

Also keep in mind that Toshiba units are different to a extent from Motorola units.

I get some not so cool experiences using a Toshiba 68000 in one A500 until I figured out the Toshiba chip was the culprit. I had to fabricate two sets of resistor pull-ups to cure the problem.
