Some fool on ebay selling WinUAE

Hey up - I guess you have some sort of distribution licence on WinUAE that says it cannot be sold?

Well on eBay USB Emulation sticks have cropped up, looks like he's also ripping off Classic Workbench

I have seen a couple a-holes selling WinUAE on eBay.

I guess the only thing to do is to keep reporting them.

First time I've seen that, I know there are lots of 4gb CF's fully setup, these seem to be getting away with it. But WinUAE still being worked on must have some kind of end user agreement/distribution restrictions.

If so should be able to get those pulled.

Steve.

I assume those people selling those CDs "Just pop the disc into your PC and play all the classic Amiga games" is using WinUAE.

Those seem to crop up from time to time.

Actually WinUAE is licensed under GPL, and thus any fool is allowed to take the software and sell it at any price they want.

Damn, thats a shame - oh well!

Its a nice solution as I made one myself, of course you can do it for free (well the cost of a USB stick which is dirt cheap)

So please, no-one buy this!!!!

Where in the GPL does it state you can sell it? I thought you could only give it away?

It's really annoying - they never even bother to ask or post a link to the ClassicWB site or EAB most of the time.

Just grab and sell other peoples hard work.

If anyone should be doing something like this, it should be those who are active in the community. For instance, if it was fitzsteve, who actively helps and contributes to the Amiga community, I would not mind at all him selling such sticks and providing a service.

It's when it's done on the sly with no manners that gets my back up. All we can do is report the auctions if we have no idea who is selling and it appears to be a no name trying to make a profit out of others hard work.

EDIT: BTW, this isn't an April Fool is it? You know, with fool the title????

No joke, was on there this morning, but seems to be gone now.

I reported it so maybe eBay pulled it?

Unfortunately, this seems to happen all the time on Ebay, for example, several people selling pre-loaded CF HDDs illegally.

We even spotted one guy on Ebay regulary selling copied ROMs and counterfeit AmigaOS 3.1 disks as a bundle for £15. A quick look at his order history on Ebay and going back you could see the EPROMs and the floppy disk labels he was buying to produce this. Its a wonder none of his customers realised that AmigaOS 3.1 was never supplied on white DSDD disks.

Of course, none of these individuals are registered businesses so avoid paying taxes.

These guys are a joke, I helped a friend setup a CF card today he had bought from one of these sellers. He mentioned that many WHDload games were not working.

Quickly found out the reason, it had the default MaxTransfer! 0xffffff etc.

I'm sorry but if you pay £40 for a CF the least they can do is set it up properly!!

You'll be pleased to know I re-done my friends CF and he's over the moon with it

I'm tempted to go on eBay myself and sell these at cost and put all these fools out of business.

@fitzsteve

The mods should back you up IMHO- especially if you point out all the evidence. Looking at his feedback he has bought EPROMs, label remover and printer disk labels.

£40 for the CF HDDs is a steep price for a hard disk full of other peoples hard work distributed without their permission.

I won`t tell no lies. My first Cf HD was bought full of all those preloaded not shareware programs and keys. When you are a newbie, nobody can blame you but the seller.
I remember how I was giving my best thanks for selling me all that piracy... After a time I`ve bought all the keys and programs you still can buy by now.
