Getting Amiga Quake (Clickboom) to recognise CD ROM Drive

Hi

I am using the Clickbooms version of Quake and i cant seem to get it to recognise my CR ROM drive. I use the ASIM CD filesystem software. I remember when i had used the CD filesystem software with AmigaOS 3.5/3.9/IDEFIX'97 that Quake seemed to recognise them automatically but even when i try to configure Quake to use ASIM it doesnt seem to work. Where am i going wrong?!

Regards

hhhmm thanks for the reply. 2 questions:

1) is this cd rom software better than asim?
2) i am a little nervous about uninstalling old cd software and installing a new one. where/how would i go about this!

regards

AsimCDFS is far superior to AmiCDFS.

I am not sure what Quake should recognise the CD drive for. AFAIK all files are copied to HDD during installation.

What do you mean by recognise? How do you know that Quake recognises the CD or not? What should it do, what doesn't it do?

One thing to try is make a copy of one of the project icons (not main) like q-lan, and edit it to read something like "Quake -cddevice scsi.device -cdunit 2"

Ths even works in winuae, but youll likely need the analogue audio between cdrom and snd card connected.

Hiyas Tomas,

might I ask, how is AsimCDFS superior to AmiCDFS240(060) and is it is it worth upgrading?

I am currently using AmiCDFS240 in conjunction with my A4000 Native IDE (using the latest scsi.device) but will eventually move the Optical Drive to the CS-SCSI II

AsimCDFS can read Joliet CDs. It allows easy access to audio tracks because it displays them as AIFF files. It comes with a CD32 emulator. It comes with an atapi driver (for Kick 3.1 without upgraded scsi.device). I am sure there is more to mention.

yo! i tried that (i think i done that before too) but no luck. it seems to setup the cd drive fine but for some reason it doesnt recognise the cd inserted (it is!). yet when i try frank willies quake68k it recoignises the cd drive just fine. but i dont use this version cos it doesnt recognise the cd32 joypad like the clickbooms one does! lol

If cachedfs is the one that allows you to do what you want (play cd audio from games), then that is the better of the two for you. Apart from being able to mount audio tracks as files to rip, theres probably nothing in asimcdfs that makes it any better or worse then any other cdfs. I think MasterISO required asimcdfs, but thats crap compared to makecd anyway.

Edit: Only cdfs id avoid is AllegroCdfs. That thing used to reset the amiga on pretty much any cd that was left in the drive when wb opened.

see if you can set asimcdfs to leave cd audio as tracks or dissable/enable directscsi. May or may not help. for cd32 pad, on the quake console try setting the Joy_force setting in the config file from AUTOSENSE to GAMECTRL. Maybe starting quake with -nomouse will help too.
