Have I killed the Floppy Drive?

I decided to put my 030 Accelerator back into my Desktop A1200 yesterday night and whilst I was at it (I really don't know what came over me) I thought I'd put the top sheild back over the motherboard.

So I had to unplug the Floppy drive, etc to fit which after a bit of swearing and a cut finger went on fine

So put the FDD/HDD drive's back etc and closed her up.

But when I went to turn on there was a click and then nothing no LEDs or anything.

So I opened her back up and noticed that I had put the FDD power connector back on wrong, one pin to the right, schoolboy error.

Fixed that and then she powers on fine and boots, etc. But the FDD light stays on and nothing happens when you insert a Floppy Disk.

The FDD Cable is defo plugged in the right way round.

I'm guessing I've shorted out the drive and killed it?

Steve.

ahh the power connector, you probably have killed it then

Time to mod a cheap PC drive though it probably won`t fit a desktop A1200

Lame, thought so. I'll just wait for one of those good ol' lots of stuff for free/cheap threads LOL

That FDD hasn't seen a floppy in a while anyway its mostly used for WHDLoad the machine.

FDD`s can be useful but you can get by without one

Now no more lame errors or your bad luck will surly increase

thoug It is easily done, been there done that, only yesterday I had a bent pin on a CF adapter, did`t notice it till came to unplug the card, luckily no damage was done

Don't be too sure you've killed it. First: Have you tried to plug the floppy cable the other way around? If that didn't work, have you tried another floppy cable..?

Yep its the same way round it was when it was working. I will try another cable before I close the case up though.

Its one of your ATX-Amiga PSU's so it should be top notch

I'll grab another FDD when an el'cheapo comes up. I rarely use the FDD in that A1200 as its mostly used for WHDLoad.

Aye, they have short protection in them. They will refuse to work for around a minute after a short happens.
