Reading SPS faq i still don't understand one thing:
the LIFE of magnetic surface of the disk is ONLY affected by time or the number of times disk was used is a relevant factor ? I mean, if a disk was used very few times, his lifetime will increase ? Furthermore i read this is the Wanted page: PLEASE DO NOT TEST (i.e. even load) ANY GAME REQUESTED HERE AS THESE ARE USUALLY ONES THAT MODIFY THEIR DISK! ALWAYS KEEP YOUR DISKS WRITE-PROTECTED! But if i keep disk write-protected i can load game without problem ..... or not ? ![]() |

The life of a floppy disk can be affected by many things....
When in use the heads inside your floppy drive are in contact with the surface of the disk - and inside the disk itself are pads which are also in contact. As a result the magnetic particulate will wear off the disk gradually with usage. If left without use for a long time, the disk will gradually degrade, although it should last much longer than a heavily used one. Another factor in how long your disks last is the environment in which they are stored. The surface of the disk is susceptible to mould, and damp and extreme temperatures can also affect the life of your disks. |
