Someone got themselves a bargain

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=200241646169

I placed a few bids, and failing to get the top bid, I thought I'd wait and snipe, but the end time was 1:27am (BST) and I forgot

£75 including postage. Damn low price for an A530

Shipping to Canada and USA only though.

/me wonders if his VXL30 with 8meg is worth much. Since it doesn't fit in my CDTV I am kinda thinking of getting rid of it. Not planning to use my a2000s much and A500s take up too much deskspace.

Send a message via ICQ to coze Send a message via Yahoo to coze
this is what you get if you don't split items and ship abroad.

That A530 looks so sweeeeeet!

One of the best add-ons for the A500 ever.

And?? You ship it to an US EAB member you trust (or in my case our USA office) and get it redirected.

Just trying to justify the low price. Not everyone has contacts or branches in the U.S.

A good friend of mine that used to call me all the time with some new games had that exact same GVP Drive hooked up to A500 in the grand old year of 1991 and i used to absolutely DROOL over it!!. All i could afford back then was as external slimline drive, microswitch mouse and my Philips monitor, but what would have completed me would have been that GVP Drive!.. that truly is a bargain for such an Amazing drive!!

Yes, I did have Supraturbo28 + RocHard HD + 2MB as a cheaper alternative. Just the missing game HD installers did spoil the feeling.

I bet you he had a GVP HD8+ rather than a GVP A530 which looked exactly the same but cost 1/10th.

I've got to say I think the A530 is a bit overrated.
Sure, the nostalgia for it is strong. Back in the day I wanted one of these badly.
These days you're MUCH better off with a 68030 inside an A1200.

I wouldn't be sad about missing out on this one, it looks quite yellow.
If you're going to get something for nostalgia reasons it might as well be pristine.

No, i am 110% positive it was the GVP A530. I used to go there once every 2 weeks or so and i would spend something like 4 or 5 hours at a time in his house copying, so its not something i would forget... If you are think 1991 was too early for the A530, perhapys it was 1992 or 1993 when he got it, i am not running on an exact timeline memory wise, but YES it was an A530 and i was in love with it!..

I sense a bitterness in that statement my friend.....

Remember it happened long ago.... release you anger.... it wasn't your fault... stop blaming yourself over that...

I know you really wanted one, and you got sold something else inappropriate to your needs, but theres always something to learn from this...

maybe one day.... when you have bought yourself one, you will no longer need these therapy sessions

And I only went in to buy a HD8+ too

Seriously though, be honest... no sensible middle class parents are going to spend £849 (in 1993) which is £1205.58 in today's money for add on for their kid's computer are they??

@AlexH, dont worry, one day you'll walk into a Barnardo's and see a boxed pristine A530 sitting there for 5 quid, you'll complain to the old biddie at the till that its overpriced "like, who buys Amiga's anymore?!?!", and she'll sell it to you for 3 quid instead.

And then you'll wake up.

Prices have dropped over time so it's pretty difficult to spend that much on a peripheral these days. The money still gets spent though. Many kids have XBOX 360s and PS3 and Wiis and who knows what else connected to $2000+ LCD TVs in their bedrooms. They all have computers and mobiles too. What's the difference?

I doubt very much they get £1200 computers...

And get real... the 360 & wii cost £179 and a 15" LCDTV from the supermarket costs £120 and PAYG phones cost as little as £9.99... orders of magnitude out.
