Remapping a key within a game

I have tried for the last few hours to remap the right Ctrl key to the left Ctrl key so that I can fire within the classic Amiga game, Ikari Warriors.

I've tried so many different settings, and I can't get it to work and I need some help in the form of a dummies guide, for how to remap the key.

I am using keyboard option B, which is the cursor keys.

Thanks

Map Left CTRL to "Joy2 Fire/Mouse2 left button"? (B option internally maps Right CTRL to "Joy2 Fire/Mouse2 left button")

Hi guys, thank you both for your advice. It's so nice to be doing Amiga things again, so many happy, good memories come from the Amiga days.

One further question as I can't configure WinUAE exactly in the way that i'd like to. Sorry for the simple question, but I do need help in a basic format as i'm not a WinUAE expert.

In WinUAE I go into : Settings / Host / Input / Configuration #1

Input Source Input Target
Ctrl "Joy2 Fire/Mouse2 left button"

And the "Left Control Key" now "fires" within Ikari Warriors (great, excellent), however I can't use the Cursor keys.

To use the Cursor keys to control the my "Ikari Warrior" on the screen I have to switch the configuration from Configuration #1 back to "Compatibility mode."

PS Yes, I am running XP and maybe a joystick would be a better option in the long run, but for the moment, i'd like to get this working with the keyboard.

I have similar experience, it looks that the joystick emulation works only with the unmodifiable "Compatibility mode" (I've tried to add shortcut for window/fullscreen switching).

Did you select keyboard when you selected Compatibility mode #1 for example??

WinUAE let's you do all you want with keys. Once I programed F1 to restore, F2 to save and F3 to pause emu. But mostly I suggest you get one of logitech dual analog gamepads, so you can select 12 different buttons to wathewer you like.

Yes, the checkbox next to the "Keyboard *" is checked.

Configuration #1 and Keyboard* are selected. It's in this mode that I can now fire bullets, however the cursor keys fail to work :-( The keyboard re-mapping configuration seems be quite confusing.

For the time being, i'd like to somehow get WinUAE working with the keyboard.

Just forget about remaping at the moment.

First select default (compatibility mode) and select port 0 to mouse and port 1 to keyboard layout B (cursors + R Ctrl).

Try the game and check if it works. If not, change ports, place kayboard layout b to port 0 and mouse to port 1 and try again.

If that works, now try to map buttons.

Make sure to use buttons that are not used by the game.

Also make sure if you editing correct joy port in maping (joy1 vs. joy2)

Solution on remapping keys within WinUAE.

Select Configuration #1 and Keyboard*

Map "left control key" to mapped to Joy 2 Fire.
Map UP to Joy 2 UP
Map DOWN to Joy2 DOWN
Map LEFT to Joy2 LEFT
Map RIGHT to Joy2 RIGHT

Easy.

Right.. Thats the fire button sorted now!!!

Can someone help me re-map the cursor button and the fire buttons so I can get them working together... ?

I'm trying to use Q for up, Z for down, U for left and O for right and I dont seem to have much option but to have the left control key as fire...

Any help would be much appreciated,

Cheers

Rich
