Question cd-drive to serial port connection! +VIDI

I own an A1200 with 2,5" HD, Blizzard 1230, CF device and CD-RW drive (in its case with PSU connected by IDE-Winner and controlled by IDEFix).

Last week I bought from Ebay my 2nd A1200. It came from German with no HD, an external floppy drive unit, Amiga video splitter and grabber devices (not found on Amiga hardware-book), tons of floppy and finally a case with its internal PSU and having a Sony CD-drive named CDU 33A-01 (IDE-Atapi?).

Main problem is with the last unit. The seller, on my request, didn't remember but he told me he connected it by the given cable from the case to floppy or to serial port. The cable I was given doesn't fit the floppy port, but it is ok for the serial on Amiga. The other side has a parallel connection fitting to the external CD-Drive case. I opened it and this inside has a tightened IDE cable from the CD-Drive to a little electronic card and terminating in an external parallel-port like that one back on the Amiga.

I know IDE-Winner/Splitter connection but this is new for me.
Could anyone here help or link me anywhere?
Do you know which driver I need?
(obviously I'll put a 2,5" HD or a Compact-Flash inside the Amiga).

And more, could anyone suggest me software for Amiga Video Splitter and Amiga Video Grabber unit?
Thanks!

Your CD drive is hard to find info on:
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-ha.../msg00085.html
http://www1.harenet.ne.jp/~hiharada/...l11/pl110a.htm

I first thought by the sound of your description it might be a 25pin SCSI connector on one end (just like serial/parallel port on amiga) and a 50 pin centronics/SCSI connector on the other end. A picture might help.

In which case you would NOT want to connect it to the serial or parallel port.

The japanese webpage suggest the connection type may be neither SCSI or IDE (you can find out real story if you can read japanese???), and the other link suggests someone connected theirs through their SB16 soundcard (I didn't know you could as SB16 was too recent!)

Maybe it required an interface card?:

I have received items before which I was told would work with an amiga, but they required an ISA adapter card! LOL! best of luck.

One of these cards includes a Sony CDU31A 34-pin interface:

I had a similar drive to one of these about 10 years ago, you hooked it up to the PC's LPT port and needed to mount it manually with drivers in DOS.

I've never seen an amiga version of these drives. It was just a standard IDE drive with the IDE-LPT converter at the back. Did the parallell versions of the Iomega Zip ever end up working on Amiga??? Perhaps if they did then there's hope for your CDROM.

There was a commercial interface made (by Blittersoft?) to connect parallel zip drives to the Amiga. It was dog slow, though, from all reports. There's also a parallel zip hard hack with software driver on Aminet, if that's of any help to fc.studio:
