Chrysalis vs. Krisalis

You can thank Krowbar over at Lemon for pointing this one out:

If you look at the boxscan for Prison http://hol.abime.net/1152/boxscan it does indeed show Chrysalis, not Krisalis.

And if you look at the DBS it says Krisalis.

If they didn't even know, how the hell is anyone else supposed to?

PRISON 1988-89.
Apart from a few abortive attempts at designing a fully fledged game this was my first game to be wholly designed by myself. I have always loved the 'arcade adventure' genre, creating a mini world has and always will appeal to me. With Prison I was inspired by the John Carpenter movie 'Escape from New York', a guy trapped in a Prison world seeking a way out but having to contend with gangs, would be friends and foes. I love having characters to interact with (and not just for fighting or cut scenes!) and in this game you could buy allegiances, sell and trade, meet people, get information and contend with night and day (the game had a real time clock and the environment would constantly change depending on the time - certain tasks were easier and harder at different times).

Prison may look crude now compared to today's games but I think this game was ahead of it's time and some of the game play ideas were never seen again until games like Zelda nearly a whole ten years later. The game was not well marketed and not many people ever got to play the game which is a shame really but I resurrected some of the game-play ideas for MEDIEVIL.

The game was programmed by Michael Hart (who was a school chum of mine). Below you can see a publicity photo of the two of us (in an 80's style!) as well as a few reviews and magazine quotes about the game.
See his game list here http://www.atomic-city.co.uk/pages/games/list.htm

Thanks a lot!

The most interesting part is this ...
Quote:
The Teque name was eventually dropped in 1991 in favour of Krisalis but the Krisalis building is still known as 'Teque House'.
Doubtful!?
Look here:
http://hol.abime.net/3047

TEQUE on the intro screen!
*OR* this Teque has nothing to do with the Krisalis Teque?
Would explain a lot, as a related game, Club Football Manager, was coded by Justin Heyes-Jones.

Another one? Here you are...

http://hol.abime.net/2878

"teque" mentioned as coin-op conversion team, but with a completely different logo.
Another one by Psygnosis, same team: http://hol.abime.net/2933
Both of these were in 1992, one year after the alleged "death" of the Teque name!

Interesting!
