Which software for adding a Cybergraphics 64/3D card to an Amiga 2000?
I've never used an RTG card in an Amiga, but I just cannot find a decent scan doubler/flicker fixer, and my 1084 monitor is driving me nuts next to a 20" LCD for my XP machine. So, I decided to take the plunge and get the Cybervision 64/3D card.
The gfx card is going into an Amiga 2000, with GVP '030/50MHz, KS 3.1, WB 3.1 system. I just don't know whether I should go with Picasso96, buy the CyberGraphx4.0, or upgrade to WB 3.5... Any suggestions? |

It's not free, it's shareware.

Try Picasso96. It works fine. You could also try Cybergraphicsv3, but I prefered P96.

as alewis suggests Picasso96 in my opiniion is better than CyberGraphics V3, however its 50/50 between P96 and CGv4+

Ok, I guess I can save myself some money then What are the major differences between P96 and CGX4, and how resource intensive are they? Is an '030 fast enough to run a 800x600x16-bit WB screen in a ZII slot with good speed?

Ok, the card comes with CGX3. I am going to try that and the P96. If the P96 works better, I'll be happy to pay the shareware fee, I don't mind supporting whatever companies or people are left supporting the Amiga...

Assuming one can still pay the author.. the homepage is no longer on the web.
Not particularly resource intensive (from the perspective of a B2000, GVP68030/40, Picasso II). I greatly preferred P96. Upgrading to OS3.9 no contest - CGX breaks the system. |

Well, got my brand spankin' new 64/3D today, and it was quite an interesting experience... Put it in my A2000, and first I tried the CGX3 drivers that came with the card. After installing everything, I rebooted, and everything worked, but it sooooo slow... Running a 640x480x8-bit was much slower that ECS at 640x200...
I then decided to actually listen to the manual and run the Enforcer, and it was like night and day. My understanding of the Enforcer always was that it intercepts bad programs that do bad things with other programs' memory, so I am still not sure why I need it, but oh well... Anyway, then I installed newest P96, 2.1b I believe, and it is working like a champ. Even running at 1024x768x24-bit is plenty fast, I can't wait to try the card in my new 4000/040 when it comes in next week... PolBit |

Got my CGX4 in the mail yesterday. I uninstalled the P96, and installed the CGX, and am quite happy. Seems a little faster, and more stable. However, with P96 there was an option to universly try to promote all native amiga modes to a 640x480 screen. I don't see that option with CGX4 anywhere. I downloaded ModePro, which works great, but it is just too much for my simple needs.
So, am I missing an option in CGX4? Or is this the only way to go? |

I found modepro was the best to use even when running p96.
I used a lot of Rendering and ( before imagine 5 ) and the mode premotion from modepro was a life saver, this is useing either cgx4 or P96 |

I hear what you are saying, but it seems like an overkill for my needs. ModePro looks like it's using a lot of resources for all the good stuff that it does... Plus it's a bit of pain to initially set up every program...
