Compact Flash cards and WinUAE 1.3.4

Hi Toni,

I'm hoping you can help me please.

I'm using WinUAE 1.3.4 and I'm trying to format my 512MB compact flash card so I can then stick it in my real A1200.

if I use the "-disableharddrivesafetycheck" option WinUAE can then see the CF card, but when I run the WB HDTOOLS or HDINSTTOOLS programs to prep the 'drive' they cannot detect the drive at all (I'm using a .HDF as my boot - so is that the problem? if I boot from a ADF and remove the HDF it might then 'see' the CF drive? I don't have the WB install ADFs with me to test at the moment).

EDIT: I've tried a WB2.1 Install both with and without UAESCSI.DEVICE enabled and still no go.

Any suggestions please?

Many thanks,
Gizmo

re: compact flash card and winuae

I had the same on Windows preventing to see the card or to (once managed to make it apeear) change the settings/partition the card.
I had my setup already configured on the HD on my A1200, and I just wanted to change the HD to a Flash card.
The only way I managed to do this was:

I attached my HD to WinUAE and created a Hard file.
Then I connected my flash card into the A1200 and booted via the Install floppy.
Then partitioned the Flash and formatted.
Once I have done that then I was able in Winuae to attach my CF card as an Amiga HD and then I tranferred the system from the Hard file within Winuae.

I hope this helps.

PS: the HD toolbox at first didn#t reconise the flash. I had to add it from the settings of the HD toolbox

I hope this helps you

Many thanks for the info, that's pretty much what I'm going to try tonight and see if it works.

What do you mean by you added it from the settings of the HD toolbox please?

thanks,

Well it wouldn't show as HD. I think there is an option to add your settings manually. If you click it then it should show you what you have.
for some reason now it shows as sDHO instead of DHO. I don't know what the "s" stands for but it works so I don't really care

Let us know how it works out for you

You need to tell hdtoolbox that you want to use device called uaehf.device
(edit icon properties or use command line)

Thanks BiL0 and thanks Toni,

BiL0's suggestion of sticking the CF in an actual Amiga and prepping it worked.

Toni, I'll have to try your suggestion tomorrow when I'm back at work as I didn't bring my USB to 2.5" IDE adaptor home.

Regards,
