Custom HDF Creator

Hi all.

I was bored about actual WinUAE buildin HDF creation so, I decided to create my own one to fit my need.
I wanted to have HDF with custom sizes. Not only 1Mb, 2Mb, 3Mb, etc... but for examples 750394bytes ...
This small program simply ask you for a new HDF file to create and then, if the file is created successfully, it will ask you the size in bytes of the HDF file.
It then create it with the good size.

This software is dedicaced to create small HDF files ( < 64Mb )

It is suitable to make separate HDF games

ED: Sorry if I post this in the bad forum, I'm french and I didn't found any other forum to fit this.

thank you Freddix!

this will now allow me to easily create the workbench environment I want on WinUAE, then transfer it across to a physical HDD and use it on my real A1200.

True. I completely missed this thread! It was only until I was real bored at work that I started searching for old threads.

Yes you're right, but it's a bit late now to go into News forum now so I've moved thread to Amiga scene instead

I zoned this nice little app for anybody who wants it.
It came in quite handy when I made a bunch of selfboot WHDLoad games for my XBOX.

File size should be divisible by block size and block size should be power of two, preferable 512, otherwise many programs will break.

A good idea would be to let the user select a geometry given by block size, sectors, heads and cylinders and then create a HDF which matches the geometry.

Determining .hdf Drive Parameters

Is there a way to determine the drive parameters needed in WinUAE for a given .hdf file of unknown geometry?

About two years ago I had created a 4GBish .hdf file & built a nice 3.9 system in it. WinUAE versions changed, and I lost my original drive declaration info. When I went to use it again recently, I couldn't provide WinUAE with the requested drive layout info. I no longer have the config file from the old WinUAE install, either.

Is there any utility that can provide this info, by reading the .hdf file & subsequently generating the proper WinUAE settings, in text form, so that I may be able to use my old .hdf again?

If not, I'd say that such a program would be useful for everyone.

Thanks!
