Sound allways at 48kHz :(

Seams I can't set the sound to anything else then 48kHz, no matter what I do. As soon as emulation starts: Boink! No way dude, frequency = 48kHz. No wonder that sound emulation is jerky and bouncy. I'm on WinUAE 1.1.

And besides; I think it is a little bit overkill to expect an emulator of an amiga to run at 48k when the real amiga could hardly output 11khz.

You need 48kHz mixing frequency when mixing four channels with different sampling rates together. The more the better. Also the Amiga could output 28kHz, with AGA even 56kHz.

What do you see in logs? What sound card? What sound driver version?

Thomas is right, mixing different sampling rates without quality loss needs MUCH more than 11KHz.

Maybe it's just my crappy cards...but I seem to find 22.05 kHz to be the best setting for playing games at least.......VIA AC'97 buildin MB card, with the latest drivers from VIA itself, I believe.

I've tried 44.1kHz(CD quality sound, allegedly) with different trackers and games, but the sound from that is just horrible.

I don't think you're getting my point. In some ways the software refuses to accept my setting of 22kHz no matter what I say or do. The thing is this. Lower khz = lower cpu usage, lower cpu usage = better speed improvements. And better speed improvements makes the emulator more fun to use especially if you're on an old PC! So please could you add a "Use current" checkbox to override the usage of the frequency the program think is the best?

The bootlog is up in the zone, if that says anything to you.

If the bootlog doesn't mean anything to Toni, then nobody else likely stands much chance of deciphering it.

Are you using a custom configuration file? If so, have you saved the configuration after changing the settings the way you want them to work, and then confirmed that if you load that configuration file again, the settings on the sound panel match what you changed them to? If you are using one of the "Quickstart" configurations, I'm not sure if they will allow you to twiddle with the various settings since the intent in providing them was to eliminate the need to do so, but you should be able to change them to your hearts content with a custom configuration file.

personally, I'm always using custom configs.....I like to tweak the emulated Amiga to my own needs

And yes, I sometimes forget to save the settings, but....in most cases, I remember to. Still get the bestsound from 22.05kHz, though

Quickstart don't affect any host-settings (including sound frequency)

anyway, I meant winuaelog.txt, not winuaebootlog.txt (enable checkbox in misc-panel). Change frequency to 22050, start emulation, make sure frequency has changed back to 44100, exit WinUAE, check the log.

There's much more to this than just changing the sample rates I feel. I have an Audigy 1 card somewhere, and that uses an internal 48khz path, so 48khz always sounds best.
Depending on how the sound is mixed means to get really good sound you may have to output 96khz! 22050 may sound better with your cards drivers as the sound doesn't have to be processed by winuae before being outputted....

Sound data always need processing (resampling) before it can be output to sound driver.

I might try to install the SBLive card I have lying around here somewhere......though, last time I tried, I still got the bestoutput from WinUAE with sample rate 22.050, sound buffer set to 1, no lag compensation, 70% stereo separation, Interpolation disabled and SoundFilter to Emulated.

I've tried with mixing frequency at 44.1 but the sound becomes clipped and icky. Should have a fast enough computer....AMD Sempron 2600+ w 1GB RAM and GeForce4MX 8xAGP.

Anyroads, it works for me, so I don't really have a problem with it, and I'm not into the emulation of my Amiga for the quality of sound anyways

Here we go, trial and error... And this still kicks back to 48000.

Did you check the log? You should see something like "SOUND: minimum supported frequency: xxxx" or "SOUND: maximum supported frequency: xxx" in the log. (and your driver is most likely broken if you do see these messages..)

Can you use higher than 48000?
