Extract CAPS .ipf files?

Is it possible to extract the files held within a CAPS .ipf image? I'm wanting to use the files in CAPS version of Secret of Monkey Island I have to use with ScummVM.

As long as the disk has a AmigaDOS filesystem (which *I think* MI does) then you can do it by using WinUAE. Simply insert the IPF's into the drives and look at them using Workbench or some other file manager.

A little word of warning. CAPS are originals, so you have to have the codewheel to pass the protection screen. Unless ScummVM somehow skips that part.

In ScummVM the protection is invoked with an optional commandline switch which by default is turned off. This is because budget re-release versions had the protection checks disabled by LucasArts so they did not have to supply codewheels/books all over again. The ScummVM interpreter has no way to tell the difference between data files taken from the original and budget versions (they're identical the check is in the original interpreter) so the check had to be disabled to allow the use of all legitimate versions.

For The Secret of Monkey Island you need the *.LFL, *.LEC, MUSIC.DAT & SAMPLE.DAT files copied to a single directory, these files can be copied from any Amiga version, the game runs perfectly under ScummVM 0.7.1 (I've personally completed it on both the Win32 and WinCE versions).

Nice

Yeah, removing protection (disk and manual based) seems to have been very common for budget versions.

The removal of disk based protections in particular was interesting because in many cases the equipment to duplicate the protection was no longer available by the time the budget version was released. But it was probably cheaper too.
