Action Replay manual
I got my hands on an Action Replay cart. The PCB says 'Action Replay' and DATEL 1/90. It has a 'freeze' button, an on/off switch and a speed control knob. It's identical to this one, except the freeze button is grey on mine.
http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...cgi?HARDID=737 Is the manual on-line somewhere? So far, I have found a manual in German for the MK-II and some sparse information in the docs on the TOSEC'ed software versions of the AR. I found the help menu and tried typing in some status commands.. :-) It seems to work fine. I tried typing LORD OLAF and was granted SYSOP status as per this site: http://www.mways.co.uk/amiga/howtoco...tionreplay.php - but what is SYSOP mode exactly? This thing makes me wish I knew 68000 assembler! Last edited by Sune Salminen; 08 February 2005 at 06:58. |

Sysop mode (text copied from winuae readme ;o) ) :
Action Replay 1 / 2 / 3 instructions -------------------------------- - You need AR 1, AR 2 or 3 ROM (see below for rip instructions) - Set path to Action Replay ROM file (ROM-tab, cartridge ROM) - Freeze button = Page Up - Don't use AR support to save game states, use build-in state save option instead. (much faster and compatible) - WARNING: Action Replay don't like fast Amigas or 68020+ CPUs and max supported fast ram is 4MB. Action Replay ROM Ripping instructions: Find A500 with Action replay-cardrige, press 'freeze'-button, write following: AR 1: lord olaf<RETURN> AR 2 and 3: may<RETURN> the<RETURN> force<RETURN> be<RETURN> with<RETURN> you<RETURN> new<RETURN> (AR 3 only) insert empty floppy disk into DF0: AR1: "sm ar1.rom,f00000 f10000" AR2: "sm ar2.rom,400000 420000" AR3: "sm ar3.rom,400000 440000" transfer ROM image to your PC So you can use the rom image in your winuae. Ah.. cool. My own AR r0m dump :-)
It acknowledges the command (well at least it doesn't go ??? after i type it :-) but it doesn't save anything to disk. I guess I have to tell it to do that myself somehow. To complicate things further, the AR uses its own filesystem, FDOS, which is not accessible from AmigaDOS. I wonder why they made it do that. The only way to transfer the rom image to PC would be via Cloanto Amiga Explorer, so i need the file to be on an Amiga DOS disk. |

hmm the AR3 docs were online in .pdf format. There was some website that I found via goolge last year some time, and it had lots of Amiga Game manuals available in English.
Perhaps this site is now ofline, and doesn't have the docs in the cache folder? |

Heh, that manual is cool. It has a game hacking tutorial section!
It looks like the AR III was the Action Replay to have. It seems to have lots of useful functions that aren't present on the AR I. I hope an AR-I manual surfaces somewhere. Thanks anyway! |

I've found the Mk II manual in German, I can translate it from German to English, however it may take me a little time to translate 55 pages... I will give it a go though. Once I've done it I will up it to the Zone.
