Star Trek 25th Anniversary - Boldy going nowhere

I am a bit stuck with the controls in Interplay's Star Trek 25th Anniversary. When I am on the bridge and I get the order to warp the Enterprise to a planet, I try to access the Navigation screen pressing 'N'. Here zillions of stars are available to choose from, but I have not the faintest idea how to select the correct planet! Everytime I choose randomly a star I get shot down by some space pirates or battle by irritated Romulans.
How do I know which planet to choose in the Navigation screen?

Manual Protection

Belgarath and Retroman,
Thank you both for your responses. It appears the navigation screen is some kind of protection!
This is what I got from the manual:
(...)You will need to refer to the star map in the middle of this manual for the names of the stars.(...)
Now I can finally boldly go into a game which I've never played before.

The game is great, kriz. i played it 10 years ago on a x486 and loved it. It is the only Star Trek game to capture the original series. It even has the crew's real voices.

Fred is right - the game is really great. It is mainly a point 'n' click adventure and captures The Original Series' atmosphere very well: Kirk, Spock, Bones and cadet X (who is very likely to get beaten or shot) beam each episode down to a planet to rescue a hippie colony.

I have played the first episode 'Demon World' again last night and was impressed by the storyline - It is taken from the series: Hippies are feeling sick and see demons. Of course these are holograms created by a 100.000 years old automatic defense system of a strange alien race. Kirk manages to free the aliens from the defense system and so they live long and prosper with the hippie community. Aaawwww - Lovely.

It's one of the best Trek games ever released.

I RUSHED into a local store called Topsoft to buy this baby as soon as it surfaced, so desperate was I to have an Amiga AGA specific game.

Great stuff. Runs fine on a standard 020 with fast RAM.

Thumbs up

Definitely is a nasty protection guard Tim. Seem to recall a thread a couple of years ago about this,& The One actually made mention of it in their review too.
The game took a long time coming too, started out being converted to the A500 series, virtually got aborted & then revived by interplay when the aga machines were being released.
