Nope, it's been cancelled.

But then Spadge made a post in the Alien Breed Fan-Remake thread which pretty much sealed AB2K5's fate - it seems that the latest version of one of Team17's greatest franchises is cancelled. I didn't want to believe it (as you can see by reading my post in that thread...), but there it is in black and white.

Rest in Peace, AB2K5.

I saw these screenshots years ago. It doesn't look like something that could be fun more than 10 minutes to me.

Looks like Team17 have been reduced to a shadow of their former selves, trapped by publishers into releasing Worms re-hashes until they go belly-up

What happened to the legends, the team who pushed the boundries of the Amiga, the team who sought innovation in their titles??

Ye i know petitions do nothing. You get a better response if you post on their forums something like....

( What STUPID DUMB SHITE decided to cancel this game....Obviosly brain dead and shouldnt be in the computer game business at all !!!!! )

doesnt help but usually gets a response J/K

IIRC, there were some screenshots a couple of years ago, but they were nothing like as good as those ones above.

Strange because I think the first one was exactly the same.

That must be why we are discussing this today. It's nearly the deadline.

Hmm, I remember some different ones... Where an alien was walking down a staircase? It was also more of an overhead view... Oh well, perhaps I am imagining it, or was a different game...

Don't worry, you're not imagining anything fiath. I remember seeing the older screenshots and they were half as good as the latest ones. Shame it's being dropped though. That's just the way the games industry is nowadays. Companies are canning games left right and centre if the publishers say they won't support it's development. It's a bit of a shame all innovation has been stamped out. Let's go back to the 80's and bedroom programmers. yay! lol.

I would personally really like to see this game make the light of day. Unfortunately like most small-to-medium developers Team17 are at the whim (or should I say whip?) of the publishers who provide funding for their games and ultimately have a say in what's Hot, what's Not and whatknot. In a way I'm rather gutted that Infogrames opted not to publush any future Team17 titles - Infogrames/Hasbro/Microprose/Ocean gave Team17 a lot of leeway. What destroyed that relationship, however, was Microprose' insistance that they make a 3D Worms game there and then. They were adamant that they could do it themselves, too. The end result? Hogs of War. 'Nuff said.

One of the thigns I discovered recently was that AB2K4/2K5 was powered by the same engine that created the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance games.
