Body Blows AGA

This is a particularly rare beast - hasn't been seen in any of the popular areas (i.e. Amiga game sites), not even the ones with chock full of material (PE2000, Sane etc.) have witnessed it. It is known to be different to the ECS version in one aspect that is not the graphics - it's HD installable. Does *anyone* on this board happen to possess this particular edition of the well-remembered Team 17 beat-'em-up?

I thought so....

...but then I checked and it turns out the version I have labelled as AGA is the same as the ECS one. Hate it when that happens Oh well, requests like this help clean up my collection

BTW, check out Jambo, it lists at least one site which claims to have the AGA version.

Question Are you sure about Body Blows AGA?

I have never heard about a version of Body Blows for AGA machines. What I do know is that the original ECS Body Blows (released around february 1993) got an update in the end of 1993.
In this enhanced version the characters moved much smoother, had shadows displayed under them and disc access time was faster. Buyers of the original Body Blows could upgrade to the enhanced version just by sending the bootdisc to Team 17. (I have got this information from a CU Amiga magazine).

Well, here you can read the typed manual for the AGA Version : http://www.amigamos.com/manuals/bblowaga.htm

Could it be that this Version is named BODY BLOWS GALACTIC (AGA) ????

Well i have Body Blows Galactic (which seems to be only AGA) but it comes on three disks, while Body Blows AGA should be on four disks (the last one being the install disk).

I have this version cracked by Fairlight, but unfortunately the dms of the first disk gives an error (at least on the emulator) so i'll check tonight at home and if it works i'll put it on the ADFZone.

Probably i wasn't very clear in my previous post.

I have both AGA versions in dms form:

- BB Galactic comes on three disks (and has corrupt graphics if you try it on an emulated ECS machine)

- Body Blows AGA comes on four disks (the fourth being the install disk) only the dms of my first disk is corrupt and gives a checksum error at track 69 so i can't even try to see if there are any differences

The dimensions of the dms of disks with the same number (i.e. BB disk 1 and BBG disk 1) are different, so they should be two different games.

I'll try that first disk on the real amiga to see if it makes any difference, but i doubt it being an error on the dms.

Jap, I´ve been completely wrong

Sorry bout that, but I found out, that there were THREE Versions of Body Blows go ahead and read here : http://www.amigagames.com/gage/b/bodyblows.html

@ptrchiappe

There might be a copy protection on the first disk (read on the site stated above)

Anyway, all the BB games I remember:

Body Blows
Body Blows HD (or AGA, whichever way you want to call it)
Body Blows Galactic ECS
Body Blows Galactic AGA
Ultimate Body BLows (CD32, BB and BBG in one, a bit remade)

I can get Body Blows AGA if you guys need it. Just gimme time to go to the Amiga Pirate Shoppe.

That's because you are trying to run an AGA game through a different display format (in this term, ECS) to the format your particular version was designed for, silly!

Although I'm wondering something: how come Body Blows came on three disks whereas the sequel (and a lot of the time a game's sequel usually comes on more disks than its predecessor) only existed on two disks? And why was there no boss character in Galactic, like there was in the first game?

Of course i cannot run an AGA game through an ECS display , what i meant to say was that the game loaded anyway instead of stopping and telling me it could not run on that machine .

On the subject of my first disk, i tried on my A1200 and i guess that something went wrong during the dms creation process, because it stops at track 69 with a checksum error and the disk created doesn't even boot (the HD loads normally as there was a data disk in the drive). And btw on track 0 it reads "COPYLOCK by Rob Northern", so it could be that it wasn't properly cracked

Or the disk that you un-dms'd to could have a physical error on that track. That is a far more common error. Even more common is the Rob Northen (not Northern) info on the bootblock, which really has nothing to do with the actual protection. If you dms disks of Amiga games, you will see that all the time. It's just a message, not the protection itself.

I have BODYAGA1.DMS, BODYAGA2.DMS, BODYAGA3.DMS and BODYAGA4.DMS.

Presumably thats Body Blows AGA, the first DMS fails a CRC check so the actual file is corrupt.

Could this be the same DMS that you have?

ptrchiappe: would you're nick on IRC happen to be [Boz] ?

Marz: If you are serious about dumping those originals, it can be done with any amiga, harddrive or no harddrive, with most dumping tools you can direct the output over the serial port..

read my little guide to transfering files between Amiga & PC

@§ane

I connect to internet from my office lan, which just let me go on http:, so no ftp, irc, news and so on.

As a result, i must say i'm not [Boz], i don't know who he/she is and i don't even know why you asked that.

And for the first disk, if it's long 819.776 bytes it's probably the same useless file i have.

Yes, thats the reason why I´m posting it. One Disk in TOSEC is missing.

I have Body Blows AGA WHDload version as a .zip file (no adfs). But if it´s possible to get the fairlight version, I´ll send infos to idoru to add the missing disk to tosec db.

regards from germany

I have a set of this, but I'm not sure if it is complete or correct. I may have converted it from the original DMS files, can't recall.

But my disks are :

Disk 1, CRC=09686243 TOSEC=Body Blows (1993)(Team 17)(Disk 2 of 4)[b]
Disk 2, CRC=B2D1EF28 TOSEC=Body Blows (1994)(Team 17)(AGA)(Disk 3 of 4)(2)[cr FLT]
Disk 3, CRC=B0B09274 TOSEC=Body Blows (1994)(Team 17)(AGA)(Disk 4 of 4)(3)[cr FLT]
Disk 4 + Boot, CRC=AB536121 TOSEC=no entry

However I can't get it to run in WinUAE, so it could be broken.
