CD ROM support or installation in Amiga OS 3.2

Hi, I tried searching for CD ROM installation but the search function keeps disappearing, so I ask the question here.

I have an Amiga 500+ based machine with a left side edge connector connected to a vertical riser and a Buddha IDE interface on the Zorro bus. On one IDE port I have an IDE to CF adapter, on the other IDE I have a CD ROM connected. The Amiga is actually a hand built machine on a Amiga 500++ PCB.

What do I need to do to make the CD ROM work in Amiga OS 3.2.x or 3.9 for that matter. I see it as a drive in HDToolbox but thats all. Any help would be appreciated. I presume there is a driver or additional software needed? Thank you.

Just double click Sys:Storage/DosDrivers/CD0. If it works, drag CD0 from Storage to Devs/DosDrivers.

If it does not work, check HDToolbox icon tooltypes ("Merkmale"), remember what it says as SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=???.device. Close info and double click HDToolbox. Remember the number in column ID.

Now open CD0 info and check tooltypes:

Device=<what it was in SCSI_DEVICE_NAME>
Unit=<what the ID was>

Example:

Device=buddhascsi.device
Unit=2

Save and double click it again. If it says "CD0 already mounted" reboot and try again.

If you installed 3.2 from CD you should be familiar with this procedure as you already did it to activate the CD drive from the Install disk.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the tips, I will give it a try. I did the installation from WinUAE onto the CF, so did not use the CD in the actual Amiga. I will report back once I get to try your instructions.

I got it to work with:

ACTIVATE=1
Device=buddhascsi.device
Unit=0

It was important to add the Activate command. Thanks for your help.

With Activate=0, it will not mount until you access the CD0: device, say in a shell.
