An AmigaOS bug I keep witnessing since 90s

I have seen this bug happen with AmigaOS 3.0, 3.1, 3.5, 3.9 and also 3.2

While IBrowse is loading a page; especially a heavy page with ssls and stuff, (in this case I just logged in to EAB), It would occasionally freeze the Amiga if I was holding the right mouse button to view some menus.

Did anyone else witness this?

This does not sound like a bug to me. It is likely that IBrowse is requesting a MENUVERIFY IDCMP flag which means that intuition blocks until this message is reacted upon. If IBrowse is busy rendering, the system will not respond until IBrowse has found the time to react on the message.

I think this is more of a "feature." And it's not just IBrowse - most menus block Intuition until the flag is acted upon, including Workbench. It just happens to be more noticeable in IBrowse.

OS4.0+ introduced an option for non-blocking menus - not sure if it's only for Workbench or if it's system-wide.

By freezing, I don't mean menus freezing everything temporarily until you release the button. I mean everything freezes forcing you to reboot.

it seems to be a bug in your system. The one was described by Matt_H is a known feature of the OS IIRC, it was even discussed decades ago that it has it's impact on system clock as well, but if a system stops at all, then there is something else happening.

Which version of MUI? There is a bug relating to menus in MUI 3.8 that could not be worked around in IBrowse. I would suggest trying MUI 3.9 instead to see if that helps, as the bug I'm thinking about was fixed in 3.9.

The system is pure 3.2 (plus needed libraries) with mui5 installed. Using P96 here for CVisionPPC.

It also happens with 3.1 (mui 3.8 there) and 3.9 from time to time.
