Jump n Bump - DOS to Amiga port [2-4 player]

First alpha release:

[ Show youtube player ]

Download: https://github.com/earok/jump_n_bump...ump_LATEST.adf (also available on AmigaLive gaming service)

Jump N Bump is a cute but gory four player action game, originally created by Brainchild Design in 1998, now it's available on Amiga
  • ALPHA version. Score tracking and player selection options still to be added. I'll add these once I come back from holiday in a week or two.
  • Requires EITHER a parallel port adapter OR two CD32 pads for four player. (can be played 1-2 player without them)
  • Cartoon gore, may not be suitable for everyone. I may make a violence free build.
  • Requires A500 1MB, faster Amiga recommended (A "performance mode" build that uses sprites and has certain effects turned off or dialed down should be available in future).
  • Scorpion project files available here under GPL3 (requires Scorpion Engine 2024.0).
  • Can be played online on the Amiga Live gaming service right now.
  • Screen scrolls due to the resolution being smaller than the DOS original, hires/laced modes may be supported in future.
  • Rudimentary AI may come in future.
  • Some other minor effects (in particular, butterflies) still to be added.
  • No Sega builds yet, but it can be built for Mega Drive/Genesis from project files.

Huge thanks to AmigaLive for hosting and helping me test.

Adorable graphics.

The bunnies look really cute, but sadly I don't have a clue how to progress.
Everytime I jump on one bunny (I preffer to not say "kill" ), they teleport into new random place.
Am I suppose to figure out the order in which I should jump on bunnies to make the screen scroll to the right (as an info: I want to play it singleplayer).
For me the bunnies aren't moving, only my bunny is moving.

Also, will there be a title and option screen?

Looking forward to see the game evolve.

Nice! I was meaning to port this one day, but now I can cross it off my list My idea was to use some crazy overscan, but scrolling works much better. This is a great game for some quick multiplayer fun

Thanks all!

Did a quick update:
https://github.com/earok/jump_n_bump...ump_LATEST.adf

* Score counter added to bottom of screen
* Increased resolution on both axis (less scrolling)
* Improved performance on AGA (fetchmode 3)

---

CrazyOne: The original game never had single player as such, *but* I could possibly add AI options at some point like some of the other ports do.

Very Nice....

The water splash effect is cool, The springy boxes are good. I can see this being a lot of fun in multiplayer mode.

I did notice you can step on the top left stone and be out of zone, not sure if that is normal.

Also not sure if this is possible but it would be nice if when hitting multiple targets in a row you get some sort of extra bonus?

I thought so after some time (don't know the original game ).
Anyway, it looks cute.

https://github.com/earok/jump_n_bump...ump_LATEST.adf

New Jump and Bump is out. This is the first beta that essentially contains the core feature set from the original game, but hasn't been well tested yet, so there may be some bugs here and there still to be addressed.

Can be downloaded above or played online via AmigaLive. As before, Scorpion source is available at https://github.com/earok/jump_n_bump_scorpion

New features:

Title screen (eg, player select)
Players at same height repel each other
Butterflies
Score screen, including breakdown of each player's kills vs other players

Still to come:

Title screen text loop
Performance mode build for smooth gameplay on A500
Mega Drive conversion
Maybe additional levels derived from the original game's map packs?
AI and/or some form of single player mode
Maybe some further tweaks and polish

Thanks guys

https://github.com/earok/jump_n_bump...ump_LATEST.adf

Did one more minor update - no visual changes, just fixes a bug where the player vs player kill scores wouldn't be reset after multiple plays (so the bug wouldn't even be apparently unless the game was played multiple times in one session)

nice: https://earok.itch.io/jump-n-bump

With my Competiton Pro on port 1, I can't make a big jump over the tree trunk.
And with my HoneyBee on port 2, funnily enough, I can control 2 rabbits at the same time. I'll have to look for the old CD32 pads again...
