8371 and 8372

Hi,
Amiga 500 motherboard rev5 (not 6 as already written)

I changed a Fat Agnus 8371 by a 8372.
I got a dark screen.
Are 8371 and 8372 interchangeable ?

Had to look it up. You must isolate pin 41 of the 8372 so it does not make contact. The 8372 uses that for PAL/NTSC selection, but it is grounded on your rev.5, so it would force the 8372 to start in NTSC mode (which is not going to work).

Thank you for your enlightenment.
I think I will buy a 8371 instead as I'm not good at electronics.

By the way, what does mean the white dot (is it glue ?) in the corner of the chip ?

Howdy, when I did this mod years ago, I simply used some tape to cover the pin, works fine ;-)

Or you simply pull a toothpick betven the leg and the socket pin ...

And break it (cut) with cutter pliers .... up the socket ...

Yes just bend the pin outwards. If it snaps off no big deal as long as it is the right pin

Instead Agnus i would bend PLCC socket pin instead - it is way easier to buy PLCC socket than Agnus.
