Amikit 16 Colors conversion

Hi:
It's been a time I've got running an Amikit conversion with my Amiga/s 1200. Recently I did some mods to run without FPU so I can use my ACA's (anything else needed), and I've remapped all with Rebel's palette with 16 colors to speed it up.

I've thought that I should make a long video to show how it works, and now I'm using the latest icon.library that PeterK uploaded yesterday to Aminet and also I have worked a little to have a taskbar the style of Amikit (well, really mine is better). I'm using Workbench2000 with some images I've done, others resized and remapped.

As you will see (that's what the video is for) it runs fast. Remember that Amikit is made for PC's, and even there it takes a while to boot, that's why they use a progress bar then. In mine I've put some music while loading and a nice image. If you notice I'm running even more things that in Amikit; I've got Thomas' clock and Amidock. I use the same Dual Png icons of Amikit (and some more of AmiSYS for my partitions) using PeterK's icon.library.

Unfortunately the ACATune doesn't work, and it seems I have to go to my resellers to ask for a software problem and not bother another.

Well, anyway, as I've said it runs fast for using just an ACA1230/56. I believe also this video can show what it can offer. It works exactly the same with my ACA1231/42. How fast all those icons are shown is only due to PeterK (well, and some patches).

It would look better using the Indivision MKII, but as you know there isn't any trustable software yet. I hope I won't have to ask to the resellers too.

This is the video (you can change the quality to HD):

Anyway, the video isn't very good. I will ask another to make a decent video.

Well done, a very impressive demonstration of your 16 color Amiga system. Excellent speed for a real Amiga and a very smoothly video recording. You should send a mail to Jan or post it in the AmiKit forum, too. He will like it!

I'm not sure, but I believe that in my conversion the icons are shown faster than in Amikit even.

Peterk the Amikit forum, the thread about real amigas was dead since my last questions two years ago.... but on august 11 I've had an answer. Not sure if I will have to wait a couple of years more now.

And I must use the Indi. Today I've received it from repair.

Thanks. I believe I will make another video tomorrow now that I've got (today) the Indi again here.

What screen modes are you using? With the Indy try running it in HighGFX @ 1024x768 with 64 colors if that glitches (or is too slow) then try SuperPlus @ 800x600 in 64 colors.

I will try HighGfx, but forget about 64 colors. All it's remapped to 16 , I mean all the images there, you know this isn't an Apollo so I've done it to speed it up. Anyway you know that just with a larger screen (without indi even) the images look better, smooth.

I still would like to make something with the Workbench2000 bar, but I know also Cammy and Rebel are working on it, and theirs is better, with nice icons and so.

BTW I would like to know if it's possible to use HighGfx from the beginning, so I could watch the image of Bootscreen with it.

I've seen that in WinUAE you can use Superplus, and it looks nice.

Yes. IMHO it's the best possible choice to make use of WinUAE's chipset emulation.

Perhaps it also depends on your tv? Don't know. Sorry, because it's great.

Edit: Sorry, because I also use the Tv for my PC. In your laptop it should work. Just put Superplus in Devs/Monitors and restart. If it's a setting of WinUAE, I use the configuration of CWB39 without FPU.
With superplus it looks nicer in WinUAE, and I had already a wallpaper with that size where the other was. In Amikit it's clicking on the screen with the right button, settings, enviroment, background.:

Edit: The video was running without the Fast Ata drivers. Now it's running at Pio4.
Also I used an image with the wrong dimensions. There's another some posts ahead.

I'll sending you a PM with a good configuration for WinUAE Systems, and a link for superplus and more.

Edit: I've found something great to add to my Amikit: The SabreMSN adaptation Rebel did for 16 colors. It's in this thread:
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=46927
And the link still works. In my case I've copied all but the content in Env-Archive/Sys, because I need mines there.
It's really great, you should try it.

EDIT: There is a problem with the WinUAE emulation. The look of the windows is nice, but it should be like the BlueSkins Rebel did. If I use the Cf Hd in an Amiga it's ok. But that's not all. In WinUAE I found the menus fonts all in white. That's "nice", but when you are using it with a white background it isn't so "nice". I first thought that I had changed something in my copy for WinUAE, but I can see that if I use my Cf in WinUAE I've got the same white letters, while they are black in the miggy. I know it's something about the speed of the emulation, and Mfilos told me to use Cycle Exact. With it it runs desesperately slow, and the windows are wrong too.

Afortunately the color of the fonts can be changed, just Amikit:Prefs/Gui and Text to black. It will stay like that.
