OSSC Recommendations
Hi,
I've decided I want an OSSC of some description for use on an A600 and maybe later an A1200. I understand that there's the "original", and also a lot of copies. I really don't mind a copy as long as it does the same job. Any recommendations? Are there different specs to look out for? I've seen some listings with different version numbers in the title; 1.5 and 1.6, for example. Thanks |

I recently watched this video
[ Show youtube player ] which is quite good at explaining different methods of connecting Amiga's to modern displays.
When it came to OSSC, they mentioned https://videogameperfection.com/prod...can-converter/ but I'm sure someone with more experience would know if that's the definitive version, and so on. |

Yes I think videogameperfection is the right place, that's where I bought my genuine 1.6, very good quality. You also need to buy their remote. Though it says universal remote and you can buy and program it yourself it is an absolute pain and I don't advise it! Theirs comes pre-programmed.
I no longer use it though because I finally found an Indivision AGA. Must get around to putting it on amibay. |

It's odd, VGP price is 135E, and units on ebay go for 200+. Even the Chinese clones are priced on-par with VGP, which does not make sense. What gives?

It's the same hardware, it is open source.
VGP has put a lot of effort into quality control, so you know the device will work if you buy from there. The cheaper units may not have the same quality components or QA process so sometimes they glitch out a bit. But in the end they are "the same product". The bigger problem here is that some of the cheap manufacturers use VGP's brochures and logos in their packaging, suggesting people to go to VGP for tech support on devices not purchased via them. That is just nasty. So: buy from VGP if you want some kind of warranty/quality guarantee/tech support. If you're happy being on your own and figuring the problems out yourself, you can get it for less. |

I would very much encourage VGP if the price is on par with other sellers. It is a welll-made product and mine was delivered quickly.

You may also want to keep in mind that there is an "OSSC Pro" currently in development.

They ain't pulling no punches with that Pro version. MiSTer cores? Downscaling modern sources so they can be displayed in 240p on a CRT? Phew.
I doubt it'll be anytime soon though, and the price will be probably best viewed sitting down. |

I bought my OSSC in China and it works just fine on my miggies, including the remote control. Comparing with the VGP pictures it looks pretty much the same.
I am also going for the OSSC Pro once it is available, because I have an extra DE-10 nano that could be utilised with the add-on Markus is going to make. |

Thanks all.
Interesting video, Radertified. So I've priced up the OSSC on VGP with PSU, remote & overlay, and it comes to €157.93 which is currently £141.93. AliExpress has an equivalent package for $106.46, which is £86.18! It's hard not to be tempted with such a big difference in price. Presumably I'll be able to update firmware and such just like the original version. |

Yes, I have updated the firmware flawlessly. If I remember well the OSSC came with the 0.83, I have updated it to 0.85

What capture cards are people using with the OSSC? My Aver Media Live Gamer Portable 2 wants nothing to do with it.
