WinUAE and Gamebase help needed, please
I've set the paths in gamebase to winuae and the games directory. When i scan the games directory with gamebase there are no matches for my zipped adfs. Is this because (I think) they are in TOSEC format? Do I need to import romcenter data files?
I can understand how to edit gamebase to the zips I actually have, but do i need some data file that, when clicking 'play' in gamebase, configures winuae to the amiga spec to play that particular game? Or is that what it is trying to do when i click play? And then displaying 'you need <> rom' if its anything other than the last configuration i had in winuae? I have the kickstart roms in the winuae directory and 1.3 is named 'kick.rom' so how is it possible to automatically switch to other specs if you can only have one of the kickstarts as 'kick.rom'. The others are currently named kick2.rom, kick3.rom, something like that. I'm sorry if I haven't clearly explained the problems I'm having. I've read the documentation that comes with gamebase/gamebase amiga and the post setup guide but I'm still pretty confused. Any help appreciated! |

When i select a game in gamebase, it fires up Winue but if, for example, if I was playing an ECS game but want to play an AGA game, I have to manually switch for another setup . Unless I haven't setup winuae correctly? If i scan roms in winuae it only reports the one which i have selected in the main rom as being available. I don't understand how you configure it for switching between the different kickstarts..I think. |

Then you're missing the correct kickstarts. WinUAE doesn't scan for names, just the checksums of the kickstarts. So if you have the correct files, it doesn't matter how they are named |

I don't think i have any incorrect kickstarts, i did come to the conclusion it doesn't matter what they are named, (though i did think one of them had to be called kick.rom). I've played ECS, AGA games using the kickstarts when i was manually configuring before hearing about gamebase. To give an example - there were no matches as I said between the database in gamebase and the few zipped adfs I have, so i edited the details of a particualr game name in gamebase to match the version i have in winuae game directory. But when i click to play the game, Death Mask I think it was, a msg comes up with you need <a different kickstart> and i probably got the 1.3 insert disk icon appearing, because thats what winuae is currently set to. So i'm not able to launch automatically until i change the workbench ROM in winuae. If i do a rom scan in winuae it will report that i have A500, A500+ kickstart and the others unavailable, but if i change the main rom to kick3.rom for exapme it would report that i have that kickstart available and not the others. How do i set it so it scans and reports all available. Unless as you say i have incorrect kickstarts...? Totally confused!! Sorry. |

If you have all kickstart images in one folder and scan them with WinUAE, it should detect all versions that you have. Seems like you'e missing some versions then (you'll at least need A1200 for the AGA games). |

My kickstart roms are in the root directory in WinUAE. I have played AGA games as I have kickstart 3.1. Is it something to do with quickstart settings in winuae which is probably set most of the time to basic A500? What's the extended rom management for? This is all driving me nuts, you too probably! Apologies! |

GB Amiga uses its own configs and isn't affected by your last WinUAE settings. You need to have the the roms 'detected' with 'Rescan ROMs' on the 'Paths' panel for them to work with GB Amiga. On the EAB file server (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=43633) in the folder 'Games/GameBase Amiga' you can find a very limited amount of games that are renamed correctly. Try one of those with GB Amiga to see if it works at all. |

if i had a TOSEC anmed version of that and rename it to above and rescan i should find 1 game found in gamebase amiga? And pressing play should configure WinUAE with no pop up msg regarding particular kickstarts? |

This thread hurt my head
Anyway I've uploaded Dat - GameBase Amiga - Games (v1.6).zip to the zone I think elowar forgot about this file when the server crashed. Use the dat in clrmamepro, use it to rebuild your adfs to your gb amiga games directory. then put the batch files in the games directory as well and run gamemove.bat this will create all the subdirectories and move all the games into the proper subdirs. hopefully that will sort you out. |

Cyberdruid - you were correct, the games need to be in alphabetised folders, when i did this with a few adfs and renamed them from tosec to the gamebase name and rescanned it found them.
The other problem - so when i clicked play game on these entries, some launched no problem, some asked for a specific Workbench 2 or 3 and in some cases it went to the blue insert disk 1.3 screen. I had previously played all these games via manual configuration in winuae so it seems i have the wrong versions that gamebase needs, at least for workbench 2 and 3. Well, that must be it because the names don't match exactly between what gamebase asks for and what i have in WinUAE (eg workbench 2.04/05). I think i naively assumed there were only 3 basic kickstarts for A500, A600 and 1200, wheras there are various revisions? Not sure why i sometimes get the blue insert disk 1.3 screen though? Then, complete disaster, in my eagerness to obtain the correct kickstarts I've been infected by Antivirus 2008 on the pc at home. Serve me right? So now I'm looking at a mass of paperwork of how to get this bloody antivirus thing off my PC before I can go back to playing WinUAE again. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! |

Most games use kickstart 1.3, aga 3.1 and then theres a small % that use 2.05 and probably an even smaller number that use 1.2

I have a 1.3, 2.04 and a 3.1 i think...i noticed my 1.3 is 256KB and the others are 'overdumped' (??) 512k, is this important? But like I say, I was able to play all the adfs from using the kickstarts i have without gamebase, but not with gamebase, I know i've written down the specific long names of the ones gamebase is looking for. Gamebase must be using one of those kickstarts for the games it will play, otherwise its <needs 2.05> and <a version of 3.1> that i don't have or the 1.3 insert disk icon. I think my brain is in meltdown...last night I tried to play gamecube games in my wii...i couldn't figure out why the wii controller didn't do anything...until the penny dropped...you have to use a gamecube controller....doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
