Ok here is an update....
I installed an updated version of compactflash.device (from aminet) and now the Amiga detects the card (Yesssss!!!!!) Two remaining problems: 1. The card is not detected if I switch on the Amiga with the CF in the slot. If I do, I have to remove and re-insert. 2. I created a number of partitions (on the PC) on the CF, but the Amiga only sees the first partition. Any ideas how to fix 1 and 2 Thanks! |

@everblue:
Do you have a RAM expansion card in your Amiga? If you do, how much extra RAM does it provide? More than 4MB memory expansion can interfere with the PCMCIA port. Amiga OS 3.1 does not allow you to see more than 4GB of any drive without special drivers. That is why you can only see the first partition. prowler |

4MB is an issue only with an A600. I didn't read if you had an A600 or an A1200.

I have Amigakit's software, which I believe, takes care of the card reset thing. When I boot the A1200 with a 512MB flashcart in the adapter, Workbench displays it fine, but for the 8GB flashcart, I have to remove it and re-insert. Makes little sense to me

Your card is not compatible, then.
Get a new one. |

CardReset is not required. compactflash.device incorporates a pcmcia reset fix. Try it anyway, maybe something got messed up it the newer version. @2 Not sure if the device can handle MBRs with multiple partitions. You could always create seperate mountlists for these. Check out giggledisk on aminet. |

Hi guys. I bought a pcmcia cf adapter and 1gb cf card on ebay. I have them in my a1200, have put fat95 in L and compactflash.device in devs, then am double clicking CF0 to mount the card. Nothing comes up on workbench, and if I try to goto CF0: from a cli I just get a no volume in device cf0 message.
Any ideas? The card shows up on my pc as ready to go, formatted as fat16. |

Go to Aminet. Search for and download cardpatch.lha and cardreset.lha, insert lines for cardpatch and cardreset in your startup-sequence (see the docs). That should get it working. prowler |

Added cardpatch and cardreset, still no joy. I think maybe there is a problem with the card, as although it works in my pc if I attempt to quick format it I get a "windows is unable to complete the format" message. The card came brand new sealed, the brand is datawrite.

I have a 1GB Kingston CF card that I've tried and was not able to get working either with the old, or the new compactflash.device driver. I've recently purchased a number of Sandisk Ultra II cards, as they seem to work without hassle - as others have already reported on this thread.
@everblue With regard to multiple partitions on the CF card, if you take a look at the documentation for the fat95 driver (specifically the file english/readme.too from http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95) you'll notice that the standard DosType setting which you'll find in your DEVSOSDrivers/CF0 file (or possibly System:Storage/DOSDrivers/CF0 file) is 0x46415401, which corresponds to the first usable partition. Playing around with this setting may allow you to access other partitions. I've not tried this myself, but I'd be interested to know if it works. |

I want to get one of these cards which don't work to perform tests on them, all my cards have so far worked. No one appears to do systematic testing to see why they are failing so we can get a proper answer. My CF cards are marked as Removeable in all the programs I have checked it with. I was under the understanding that most CF these days are marked as removeable with some being marked as being able to support both fixed and removeable.
Can someone tell me how they are determining whether their cards are Fixed or Removeable? Because it is all seeming a bit hotpotch with a lot of poor ppl ending up with cards that don't work. If someone in Melb wants to give me their bad CF card temporarily to test I am happy to try to see the difference in the cards. Last edited by Calgor; 03 March 2009 at 06:27. |
