Flicker trouble
Just borrowed an old quick-shot joystick that a mate used on his Sega-mega-drive, not ideal, not all functions work, but anyway, the game loaded but the screen flickered badly, the amiga has a scart connection for the tv (LCD) the original long white box that used to have a co-axial connection has long gone, so that’s all I have,
Obviously I have to buy something suitable like a SCANDOUBLER if I’ve read up correctly? Will I have the same flicker if I connect to a plasma tv? Thanks in advance Regards….Steve |

If you're still taking about Dynablaster, then this could be a problem with the game itself.
If I recall the game can be selected in either NTSC or Pal mode, but I cannot remember how to do this. It maybe as simple as pressing either left or right mouse button when loading. other members will hopefully clarify. |

The best way to tell if it's a problem with the machine or not is to try a different game and see what happens (again, assuming you're talking about Dynablaster).
You definitely won't need a scandoubler, though. |

It doesn’t flicker on the start up screen, or when I put Merlin’s maths on (for the kids, not me) What Magno Boots was saying about NTCS or PAL rings a bell, What I’ll do is get a couple of joysticks and a mouse and see what happens from there, BTW can anyone recommend a good site to buy these from, I tried http://amigakit but the site was slow for me Regards….Steve |

You can also try plugging another joystick into the other port. At least one game for the Amiga (Mortal Kombat) could use two joystick buttons, and a Megadrive controller would work. Perhaps they were the same as L/R mouse buttons.. Try A+B or A+C (or some other combination).
(Also, I say "another" joystick because it might not be good to plug/unplug controllers with the Amiga powered on.. Might not be a big deal (I don't remember it being a big deal, back in the day) but I don't want to be blamed for blowing out someone's joystick port... ) Oh and yes, it's alt left/right Amiga keys.. You can also move the mouse (at least in Workbench) with the arrow keys and one Amiga key or the other. Early in the Amiga's life someone at Commodore touted that one could pitch the mouse to the other side of the room and still use the computer. I don't know why that was significant at all... |

And so... I just tried Mortal Kombat in WinUAE with a USB (Playstation) controller and a keyboard layout and it does seem to use two buttons ... but it appears they do the same thing.. Huh.. Might be one of those half-remembered rumors or something.. But still might be worth a try to get Dynablaster in PAL.

Should be the following:
Left Mouse: left <Alt> + left <Amiga> (to the right of left <Alt>) Right Mouse: right <Alt> + right <Amiga> (to the left of right <Alt>) Images: A500 (UK keyboard layout) and A500 (US keyboard layout) |
