Well the 1 I linked to, is the same as mine, which works "out of the box" with HDD led. There is 1 slight difference, and thats the resistor network, on the link 1, it has 1 side shorted together. On mine they are not. Maybe thats the reason?

Does anyone know what Chain's mod was?
I've done the wire mod to mine -like Dimlow's, my LED was installed the other way around and when I tried the first mod, the device was not recognised at all... |

MineĀ“s work soldering the wire in the other side of the led.
It works like a charm !!! lighting the internals of the amiga like a 68000 red hell power !!! and the normal led at the same time!!! Thanks for the mod !!! |

This proved to be a very useful thread for me... I bought this CF adaptor that needed the mod to get the hard drive light working - I followed the instructions here (This links back to the original post from Anemos where his photo details the correct points to connect.)
I really wanted the hard drive light to function so was pleased to see it work. I bought another adaptor from the same seller on ebay to put into my A600 and I fully expected to have to do the mod again but a slightly different adaptor arrived in the post... it is the type with the onboard red LED that flashes as well as the Amiga's HD light... This adaptor required no mod and the hard drive light worked perfectly - just as my soldering skills were getting better...! Anyway - thanks for the info here guys - especially Anemos Last edited by Peter; 01 May 2009 at 10:06. |

Im struggling with this. I tried just holding some wire across the two points and saw no activity, so tried the other side of the led like some people have found and nothing - no A600 HD led and no cf adapter led lighting up. Soldered one just in case, but nothing again. My adapter is like the ones shown, and the 600 led lights up on booting for a few secs so its not that led. Stuck!
edit ~* managed to sort it, prob just my shakey hungover hands - cool mod Last edited by clueless; 09 April 2010 at 13:56. |

I have the same adapter and mine did not work out of the box and it did not work with the original post's mod but using the otherside of the Led was successful .

LED's need current limiting resistors, a regular AA or AAA battery will toast it faster than you can say abracadabra. |

3v is safe for LED ,most Led,s start working from 2.9 to 3.3V. i have test this (3v) on many Led,s SMD,s normal 3mm,5mm,ect ..no problem another choice is testing with multimeter on "diode" setting. |

If you're using rechargables, they have a 1.2 voltage per cell, providing 2.4V, which is better, but you still need the current limiting resistor. If you look at any circuit containing a led, it ALWAYS has a series resistor. Use a multimeter. |
