Vsync in Winfellow?

Hello,

does anybody know if there is a trick to make WinFellow run with vsync on the actual screen frequency? That means I can use as lowest frequency 56 Hz on my PC.
I can configure any emulators (Steem, CCS64, WinUAE) that they use this frequency and run syncronised to it. So I have very smooth scrolling on this emulators.
Only WinFellow always paints 50 frames per second which looks bad with screen frequency like 56 Hz.
I also tried to write gfx_vsync=yes into the WinFellow config file. But it is not recognized by WinFellow.

Can you help me?

Hi Tangens,

There is a way... but it only works without having sound

Within the configuration select:

display -> resolution -> full screen (set enabled)
display -> options -> multiple buffers (set enabled)
sound -> sound emulation -> no sound

Normally, WinFellow synchronizes its emulation to the sound emulation, which is running on PAL speed (50 Hz). By turning of sound, WinFellow will run at full speed. By enabling full screen in combination with multiple buffers, the flip of the two graphical is synced to the VSYNC signal.

I don't know if this is helping, but with the current implementation you must choose between synchronization or sound.

But watching Amiga demos without sound is a little bit boring...

I want to use WinFellow for the demos because it's faster than WinUAE. Without sound WinUAE is also fast enough on my computer (733 MHz).

So if I want to view complex Amiga demos perfectly I should buy a faster computer. ;-)

Also, why not set the monitor to 50 Hz?

No .. Get a slower one, An A500 or A1200 and you WILL see those demo's perfectly. As the coder intended.

the problem is the place. I have already 3 monitors on my desktop. One for the Win-PC and the others for my Atari which I sometimes turn on for nostalgic feelings. (Ups, may I write "Atari" here in this board?? ;-)

So I won't buy an Amiga.

@Worfe, my monitor can only display 56 Hz as lowest frequency.

Ok, will the monitor run on 100 Hz? If so, using the 'multiple buffers' option, the emulator vsync's on the 100 Hz. Next to this, it sync's to the sound, which is running on PAL speed (50 Hz). This gives very nice scrolling, since every two vsync's match the PAL speed.

Just to be clear on this, you have good scrolling and sound... but only if refresh rate (100 Hz) matches the PAL frequency (50 Hz) in whole factors (in this case a factor 2).

my monitor does only 85 Hz at maximum. It seems that there is no solution for my old and slow computer at this moment.

Note: On 100 Hz the scrolling is good but not perfectly smooth. I tested it with WinUAE on my computer at work (which has 100 Hz and 2,5 GHz Pentium IV). I think a movement is only perfect smooth if the movement changes synchronized with every frame.
When I set WinUAE to work with 100 frames per second synchronized with 100 Hz everything is very fast ;-) but perfect smooth.

With 50 frames per second syncronized with 100 Hz there are always light shadows left and right from each moving pixel on horizontal scrolling.

So what, this discussion is just for fun because I could go to a computer shop at any time and buy a faster computer. But I am an old Atarian who believes in "never change a running system"... ;-)

Could you also try the same thing at work with WinFellow?

I'm very curious if WinFellow has the same performance/behaviour.

You should use the following settings:

the resolution should work at 100 Hz
display -> resolution -> full screen (set enabled)
display -> options -> multiple buffers (set enabled)
sound -> sound emulation -> play sound
sound -> buffer length -> 20 ms (VERY important)

I tried it now at work... and I remember why I tried it at work only with WinUAE so far:

On my computer at work WinFellow doesn't work! :-(
It doesn't matter if I use full screen or window mode the error message is always:

"Failure: The graphics driver failed to allocate enough graphics card memory"

The graphics card is a Intel 82865G Graphics Controller with 64 MB RAM.
